South Africa – and the world – are facing an unprecedented challenge in the face of the global COVID-19 outbreak. The government declared a national state of disaster and under the disaster management act, our president, Cyril Ramaphosa ordered a 21-day nationwide lockdown which came in effect at midnight on March 26 2020.

While the lockdown does have an end date, for now, reports are circulating that strict social distancing measures could last until August this year. That being said, all non-essential ‘everything’ will continue to be banned. And by non-essential ‘everything’ – that could include domestic and international travel, large gatherings, restaurants, malls, bars and perhaps even liquor sales. Non-essential shopping within stores like Checkers and Pick n Pay would continue to be discouraged – so shopping for new clothes or homeware will have to be put on hold for now.

Luckily South Africa is one of a handful of countries who motioned to legalise the personal use and growth (but not sale) of cannabis and fully legalised the healing and anti-inflammatory compound found in cannabis, CBD, allowing companies across the country to make and sell CBD oil on a commercial scale.

Cannabidiol or CBD is the healing and anti-inflammatory compound found predominately alongside THC and in Marijuana plants. CBD oil is extracted from the plant and in most cases, 100% of the THC (the psychoactive compound) is removed. The final CBD product can then be used as an aid for anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, epilepsy, Parkinson’s and can be used by adults, children and even pets.

Because of those incredible anti-inflammatory properties and the healing effects that CBD has on the body’s cells, the South African government has market CBD oil as an essential during the lockdown, ensuring South Africans who have incorporated CBD into their daily lives will still be able to purchase it.

What’s even more fantastic is that you can get your oils delivered right to your doorstep anywhere in the country. Zootly’s online store has been updated to reflect all essential products that are still available for delivery including their signature range of flavoured CBD oils, the Oil Science skincare range as well as their edibles including a range of CBD chocolates, coffee and more.
