Before we go ahead and reveal our favourite mountain spots to smoke a blunt across Cape Town, let’s get some housekeeping out the way. Covid-19 is still a very real threat. Founder of ‘Take Back Our Mountains’, Taahir Osman recently released a statement on maintaining safety while hiking.
“As much as we are keen to explore and render our appreciation for nature and our mountains we must maintain a heightened consciousness about the seriousness of the coronavirus,” Osman says, “and at all costs abide by the rules and regulations for lockdown Level 3 as outlined by Government and the SANParks.”

Regulations include limiting the number of people you hike with, wearing a mask (especially on narrow paths where social distancing is tricky) and travel with sanitizer. Also, it’s worth remembering that smoking cannabis in public is still illegal – so maybe bring an edible, maybe bring your vape – it’s environmentally safe.

1) Table Mountain Pipe Track
Yeah, the Pipe Track is one of the easier hikes to complete on Table Mountain. The name comes from the fact that it was a service path to the pipes that supplied water to the Mother City from the reservoirs.
It might be a bit of a “Debbie Downer” moment to know that the trail has a definitive endpoint. So, you’ll have to stop, take in the view, and walk back. Then again, the views are pretty amazing.
You’ll be able to see Table Mountain, Lions Head, the Twelve Apostles mountain range, and Camps Bay through the thickest clouds…
If you must know it is a 1-3 hour round trip…
