Gaming and toy company Hasbro is on a roll this festive season. First, they announced the release of their not-so-welcomed Monopoly for Millennials and now they have announced they will be releasing their second edition of Monopoly: Game of Thrones.
The game will be on sale from January 2019 – three months before the premiere of the eighth and final season- and will feature some serious upgrades. There’s an “Iron Throne-shaped card holder” that plays the Game of Thrones theme song while you play the game. This is the first time Hasbro has ever incorporated an audio or musical component to any Monopoly.
Players will get to control their preferred houses and buy up land all around Westeros and Essos to fight their enemies and eventually dominate the world, I mean board.
In this new edition, tokens are metallic game pieces inspired by the honorary sigils of the Great Houses, so players can pledge their loyalty to whichever house they desire. The paper currency is replaced with silver stags and gold dragons (the coins used in Game of Thrones) and instead of having a “banker,” the game’s currency is held by the Master of Coin in the Royal Treasury.
