The Only 5 Day Psy-Trance Gathering in Southern Africa…

In Celebration of 20 Years of African Psy-Trance Adventures
Summer is here, bringing a NEW season of fresh Beginnings and Adventures ♥ A New Season of Peace, Love, Unity and Respect ♥

Vortex was born on the 24th November 1994, a Party called The Essence Of Fluroesence, location, a warehouse in Woodstock, in the very year that South Africa was embracing Freedom & rejoicing in the birth of a new era, a truly magical & special time in African History, guided by a true visionary of Peace, Love, Unity & Respect, Nelson Mandela.

Twenty years down the road, we invite you to please join us for our 20th Birthday Celebration, an International Psy-Trance Gathering on the Southern most Tip of the African continent where the Indian & Atlantic Oceans meet, Cape Town – South Africa. Home to Table Mountain, one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the world.

Experience Psy-Culture as it should be, 7 Days of Friends, Fun & Sunshine in one of the most, unique, organic, beautiful, comfortable, amazing & user-friendly locations we have ever found. In celebration of 20 Years of Outdoor Gatherings & the dedicated promotion of the way of life it teaches.

Right now Cape Town South Africa is without a doubt one of the booming outdoors trance destinations of the world & one of its best-kept secrets. Our outdoor summer season is from November to January & with massive outdoor parties every weekend there is no shortage of killer Psy-Trance experiences in beautiful outdoor locations all summer…

NB:Monday 08 December is a Public Holiday – National Trance Day
After 20 Years we felt the Trance family deserved our very own holiday, after all Mondays after parties have very often proved troublesome, so a day off is most welcome for a change Make sure you apply for leave from work!

The SA 2014 Party will feature 4 Hour JOURNEY DJ sets from some of the finest exponents in the art of Electronic Music Mixing.

The Millennium saw Vortex produce the hugely internationally acclaimed party on New Years Eve, SA 2000, This was a worldwide groundbreaking event, featuring all the formulative Artists at that time of the trance scene. There were no DJ sets at all in this first ever Exclusively Live Festival Format.

The Feature of the Festival was exclusive 2-hour live performances from artists like – Hallucinogen, X-Dream, Total Eclipse, Psychaos, Pleaidians, Kox-Box, Cydonia, Etnica, Deviant Species, Tristan, Tim Schuldt, Joti Sidhu, Infected Mushroom, Droidlock, California Sunshine, Medicine Drum, Bamboo Forest, Dino Psaras & Slinky Wizard, in honor of their contribution towards the development of Psy-Trance music over the first 10 Years of its history.

Then came The SA 2002 Total Solar Eclipse Festival & voted by many as one of the best Trance Experience of their lives. On tribal land on the border of one of the world’s largest wild-life sanctuaries, The Kruger Park, this 5 day festival saw thousands of International Travelers again visit SA shores.

A collaboration between Vortex, EtnicaNet & Alien Safari the feature of this festival was to gather the primary party organizers of the Trance scene worldwide in celebration of Trance Culture.

With representatives attending from Party organizations Solstice, V00V, TBE, Solipse, Zoom, Celeb Brazil, Samothraki Dance Festival, TimeCode, Mushroom Mafia, The Glade Pioneers & a dynamic line-up of 50 Artists from around the world, including Etnica, Bamboo Forest, GMS, Pleaidians, Droidlock, Tristan, Antidote. Psychedelic Trance Parties are engineered experiences, usually by multiple sets of consciousness to create conditions that are favorable to the expansion of awareness. They are used to orchestrate individuals to awaken to a new concept, awareness, or to cross paths with a particular teacher or teaching event. Event Strings are catalysts to connect individuals with new concepts and energetic transfers that re-grid an obsolete men…tal model. They are most commonly used to shift awareness within the initiated light workers who are the vanguard of human destiny.”

Psychedelic Trance is a way of life, a way of living that teaches us the beauty of the world and our relationship to it. Trance parties for us are about the connection of the conscious whole through the expression of dance & Only the unified true intentions of the participants, organizers & musicians allow this to take place. Open Source is a collaboration of like-minded, dedicated Psychedelic Freedom Fighters committed to the revival of an authentic & profoundly transformative vibe in the outdoor party scene. This is realized through our unique family gathering in the magical realms of the Circle of Dreams, a river & forest camping setting located near the bewitching Mother City of Cape Town, on the Southern tip of Africa.

‘Open Source’ is an ideal initiated in the technological community as a revolutionary response to elitist corporate culture & reflects a struggle against oppression that resonates on many levels within our world & every living being in it. This renegade movement promotes free, universal access & redistribution of a design or idea & its implementation. It is typically created as a collaborative effort in which all improve upon the code & share the changes within the community. It unifies us as co-creators of transformative acts in our evolution & expansion as a global, synchronized family.

The Psy-Trance Community is an expression of this integrated remix culture & holds exceptional power & responsibility for unity, harmony and global respect. We believe that by aligning with the open source paradigm we can unlock this potential as a radical catalyst for change. As small as this change may be, we recognize the significance of every creative element in the bigger picture, and hold conviction in our inherent role as light-workers for conscious metamorphosis.

Across two decades of whole-hearted involvement & allegiance to this community, we have come to know and work with many sensational people from all over the world who echo this cause. People who are committed to leaving behind all illusions of separateness – including politics, race and religion – by connecting as one through music and sharing the moment. Who believe that the road is as important as the destination itself? It is our goal to encourage & assist the collaboration of these visionaries, as well as the expansion of this awareness to others, sharing the gift of giving without wanting back in return.

With this in mind, our productions are geared at combining the idea of carnival with the idea of spiritual and material transformation. For us, it’s about keeping the counter cultural spirit alive; providing a safe and spiritually charged space in which people can let go and experience the ancient energies of the communal dance! South Africa has an edge that needs to be celebrated – it’s a melting pot of cultures, traditions and energies and at this point in the history of humanity there couldn’t be a better place to celebrate transformation of consciousness and the human potential for converting imagination into reality.

The organizers accept no responsibility whatsoever for injury, death, loss or damage of any nature to persons, vehicles & belongings resulting from any cause whatsoever. Due care has been taken to make this event safe & secure. Participation at event is entirely at your own risk. RIGHT OF ADMISSION RESERVED!

Rumoured to have the blue-prints for Krang's TechnoDrome, stolen straight from Dimension X, he’s the type of guy who exudes so much coolness that he adds whole countries on Facebook at one time instead of just people. Always up for a party and a Tequila shot or two this is the guy who we always call first, both before and after a night out…

  1. My favourite Vortex to date was about 2 years ago when Ejekt came down. He played one of the best sets ever and the vibe of the party was amazing as usual. Super keen to see Symbolic at this party! Some killer tunes coming our way! See you all there!

  2. TWENTY YEARS OF VORT!!! Flip man – the memories I have salvaged from the abyss of my mind have sent me into a little bit of a tailspin, so please excuse me – I couldn’t pick one.

There was my first ever trance party in December 1998 (Vort of course) where I was a lost little creature swept up into the family by my cousins who came down from PE for the auspicious occasion. Was initially freaked out by all these weird things that were happening around me, but then was sat down and spoken to, from the heart, and told that this culture was one where you could completely be yourself, as long as being yourself didn’t affect the people around you negatively. These words have stuck with me through all of the years I’ve been in the trance community, and I have shared them with new people ever since then.

Flash forward to a few years later, Easter at the orchards. 2003 (I think? maybe 2004?). Was hanging with new varsity friends and we brought ALL the hammocks which we strung up along the path and basically just had a hammock camp. Met the most incredibly interesting people just by welcoming them into our space. The whole party all I had wanted was a chillum, and on that Sunday I got woken up, in the morning mist, by a friend and a drum and we had our own little morning ceremony. It was BEAUTIFUL!

And then the fire, who could forget it. Easter 2009. I had worked a gate shift on Sunday eve til about 1am and all I wanted to do was have a bit of a sleep before the Monday morning mission – had been saving myself for the insanity, and naturally, I was only going to organise a lift home on Monday (being as everyone I was there with left on Sunday eve). Got woken up by my neighbours, they actually came in, shook me awake and made sure I was up and knew what was going on (I didn’t believe them at first). Jumped out of my tent and BAM, there was a fire across the road, about 25 metres away! Grabbed my tent with all my stuff in it and dragged it, as-is to the gate. Managed to find some lovely strangers who offered me a ride home, but not before we watched the fire burn burn burn, watched the sun burn up over the horizon, and made our own little jam on the tar road in the queue of cars.

Sheesh, I’m a bit emotional now.

Thanks Vortels for the epic memories. MCBN, would LOVE to be able to make some more and celebrate their platinum anniversary (china) at their beautiful farm.

In terms of artists, I’ve had some pretty rad jams to Shift, Skragg and Bruce over the years… Reckon they’ll tie a bit of nostalgia in, so am amped!

  3. Parallel Universe was my favorite Vortex party 😀 Im excited to see Symbolic! 😀 Yes Please!

  4. in living memory it was the easter vortex where Burn in Noise, Altruism, The First Stone and Swarups Brain all played while it was pissing down with rain from morning to evening. havent stomped that hard in YEARS I TELL YOU 😀

as for who Im looking forward to seeing… ALL OF THEM 😀 especially 2012, Bim, Cylon and Materia. and of course, not forgetting the legend himself, Bruce 😀

    whoooooop cant wait!!!!!!

  5. best was I think 2002 when gms came down and played the nelly the elephant track that party was off the hook !!!!!!

  6. Vortex 2013 was one of my most epic Vortex parties, I took a 5 year sabbatical from trance and this was the ticket that got psy trance back into my heart! Not just the venue and the music but the people, a combination for a magnificent time! Can’t believe it’s been 20 years!
super amped for Miazu to name but a few! yay!!!!!!

  7. Vortex 2012 was my best. Not only was the music exceptional, but I was fortunate enough to share the experience with my dad as well as my entire Garden Route family for the first time. Such special memories were had!
I am very much looking forward to seeing WAIO, mostly because I missed him the last time he was in Cape Town (had to have my wisdom teeth out that weekend ): ) So this year would be an absolute treat.
    Please and Thank You

  8. My best vortex was my first back in dec 99,dancefloor on a island (which has never happened again) Im most excited to see SYMBOLIC cause they never came last year.

  9. My favourite Vortex was Open Source last year (2013).

Rubix Qube started playing at like 3am and everybody started walking to the dance floor like zombies! Within 30min the dance floor was packed and it was like the party had started afresh. I smiled at the experience because Rubix is my FAVOURITE trance DJ ever!

Would love a ticket to jam to his set again this year (please?) 🙂

  10. I have never been to a vortex before! so cannot answer the first question 😛 But I am pretty sure that this 20year celebration will be fantastic! Im pretty excited to see Kristian Dejavoo, Miazu and Ozmali as well as the local djs,Headroom and PsyTronik

  11. I have actually never been to a Vortex festivals, that’s why winning these tickets will be so awesome! I am really keen to see Symbolic.

  12. Never been to one of these as I am from Durban area and have never been able to afford the drive plus the tickets. I would make a plan if I won the tickets.

  13. Never been to one of these as I am from Durban area and have never been able to afford the drive plus the tickets. I would make a plan if I won the tickets. And I’d Like to see Cylon live. Thanks

  14. Keep this short and sweet. Favorite vortex 3 years back, met my then girlfriend.
I’m looking forward to all the sets as they are 3 hours and up giving the dj’s ample time to send us on a unique sound journey over and over again. But I’m mostly looking forward to Waio, Creator, Cylon and Materia.
It’s literally impossible for me to go now as I’m lending one of my best friend’s cash in order to help her pay the deposit and first month’s rent on the house she’s moving into in december. so winning just one ticket would be great, i have great friends who said they’ll look after me at the event, just need to get there

  15. When music speaks to Your soul and Your mind becomes numb, and Your heart screams in silent ecstacy only Your Being can hear! Music that damn thing called Music, that does things to You! When all those instruments put together, creates one deep feeling intensity, that encompasses everything, beyond the orchestral comprehension we have of the soul! I need this because after struggling for a year in Cape Town , miss placing my soul , I need to find myself in trance again, need to be bare feet stomping with my soul being content , forfilled , enlightend – truly truly would love to win this a year is too long to loose yourself – please give me a chance to find myself again and to be part of the amazing event , I promise to spread the good vibes and give it my all – one and only place you will see me is right infront of the dance floor stomping and smiling all the way xxx

  16. EEEEEK my favourite was easter weekend 2014, when I got to see Talamasca play and OMG he was truly one of the best artists I have heard in a very long time…….
