Win tickets to the Foo Fighters South Africa Tour with the BLK JKS Talent Search

It really couldn’t be easier than this to win yourself double tickets to either the Cape Town or Jozi Foo Fighters gigs. One of South Africa’s most distinct and unique rock acts has launched a competition to give one talented young male vocalist the once in a lifetime experience and opportunity of being part of the SAMA winning BLK JKS and they need your help to find this bit of talent. By joining them on stage to sing one song, the winner will get to be a true rock star, performing in front of thousands of fans in Johannesburg on the 13th of December when the BLK JKS raise the curtains for the Grammy Award winning Foo Fighters at FNB Stadium (Soccer City) in Soweto.

Each BLK JKS TLNT QST applicant must record a clip no longer than 15 seconds of themselves singing their favourite BLK JKS song (strongly advised) or whatever they feel best shows off their vocal talent and send it through to 079 269 3783, or alternatively upload it directly to (videos will be kept private up until the Top 20).

The public will get to vote for their Top 10 contestants and the top 3 will receive prizes for leading the BLK JKS to the star they are looking for. Submissions will close on Friday 21 November and the final decision on the winner will be announced on Monday 1 December.

Dubbed the original afro-futurists and true signatories to the essence of their generation, the BLK JKS, who are now five members strong, formed in the early 2000’s as a three man act and soon found themselves travelling the globe playing festivals and collaborating and jamming with artists of the highest calibre such as Alicia Keys, The Roots, Tiesto and Vieux Farka Toure to name just a few.

Having already landed the cover of the taste making New York based FADER Magazine whilst still in Johannesburg, they soon found themselves playing festivals like SXSW and living in New York where they independently recorded their “Mystery EP” at Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Lady Studio’s. Almost inevitably thereafter they were then signed. The American record label Secretly Canadian released their debut album “After Robots” in 2009.

Years later, they find themselves about to embark on the golden second chapter of their epic story – an African tour. As they work on a brand new album and the reinvention of their sound, being the opening act for the legendary Foo Fighters on the South Africa leg of their World Tour couldn’t have happened at a better time.

Witnessing this, let alone jumping on stage with them on that night, promises to be a poignant moment in South African rock history… Who will be The One?

And now we need to help them out by spreading the message (they haven’t found their star)…

How to stand a chance at winning a double ticket:

  1. Hard to pick one Foo Fighters song but the one that I keep coming back to regardless of the mood I am in would have to be Everlong. Although the entire album “The colour and the shape” is fairly epic. Would love to tick the Foo Fighters off my bucket list of bands to see live in Cape Town

  2. Best Foo’s song for me has to be: BEST OF YOU (Album – In Your Honour 2005)

This song resonates with me on so many levels given the stage I was at in my life. Seeing the Foo Fighters in Cape Town, I can’t think of a better way to end this year, it would simply be EPIC.

Dave Quote: That’s one of the great things about music. You can sing a song to 85,000 people and they will sing it back for 85,000 reasons

What I would give to be singing BEST OF YOU back for my own reasons!

  3. I was never really into them until a friend showed me an acoustic version of Everlong many moons ago. It was game over from that day on. Cape Town.

  4. Times like These – live version of the Skin and Bones album.
Would love to see them in Cape Town!

  5. It is hard to narrow it down to only one song, but if I had to pick then my favorite Foo Fighters track is “The Pretender” from ‘Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace’ (2007)…because it represents what the band does best. The opening of the track is a moody, haunting, melodic piece that pulls you in, while the remainder of the song is an amped-up infusion of hard rock goodness. Would LOVE to see Dave and the guys rock it out under Table Mountain 🙂

  6. Walk.. because on February 2012 when they performed at the 54th Grammy Awards i had tears in my eyes and goosebumps promising myself that I would see them live, making it a ‘thing’ on my bucket list but now because of unforseen circumstances and a very lame sister i cant see them unless i win tickets, or sell my soul, or sneak into the stadium and dont get it twisted.. i actually would..

  8. I would love to watch Foo Fighter’s live in Cape Town. 🙂 My favourite song is Everlong.

  9. “BEST OF YOU….” Its a great song!!!

    Cape Town

Please I’d love to see these guys live! So many good bands and I miss out on all of them

  10. Definitely gotta be Everlong the accoustic version. I know I know its the soppy choice but come on man!! You gotta love it 🙂

  11. Asking me what my favorite Foo Fighters song is, is like solving the following riddle:

“There is a story that a man and not a man
Saw and did not see a bird and not a bird
Perched on a branch and not a branch
And hit him and did not hit him with a rock and not a rock.
    [How is this possible?]”

This causes mental overload of which symptoms include excessive twitching of the eye and severe mental combustion.

If I have do what McConaughey did in Interstellar and delve deep in the worm of my mind and force myself to choose…it would probably be “my hero” or “everlong”.

Both of these songs exudes brilliance at all levels and can make even the most dullest and boring person tap his disco feet, grab his guitar, hope on a horse., ride to the magic mountain and play a solo for the world to hear…

Both these songs have always had the ability to kick whatever bad day you were having in the face (similar to that famous 300 kick)…and say “f%$k it, it’s time to tap my disco feet…ain’t nobody got time for that”.

In addition, there are very few songs that can give you more goosebumps than sweets in the cupboard of a fat kid. Your hair raises higher than whatever place creed was referring to in “higher”, that for sure.

Foo Fighters is one of those bands that literally puts their blood, sweat and tears in their songs and you feel it. For that couple of minutes, you get sucked in their void and literally feel what went down when that song was written. They’re definitely one of the best bands of our time…

  12. Thanks for the opportunity! Stoked. Everlong. No doubt about it. Something from Nothing of the new album is also pretty amazeballs. Would love to watch them in Cape Town!

  13. ‘Walk’ is one of my favourite songs as it really motivates me and what I have been going through. Would love to see them in Joburg <3 🙂

  14. Learn to Fly & Walk, getting me through a pretty tough time at the moment! Oh would be great to catch them in JHB!

  15. Every time I hear “Wheels” from Foo Fighters it’s like time stops. My heart comes to a complete halt, filled with calmness, and then about 2minutes in, everything starts again and it is like life itself started a new for just a moment. One beautiful moment which you can have every time you listen to FF…
It would make my heart really happy to see them in Jhb!

  16. All my life is hands down my favourite Foo Fighters song!!! I would love to see them in CT on 10 December 🙂

  17. My favourite song would have to be Monkey Wrench!
I would ❤️ to see the magic happen in Johannesburg!

  18. My favourite would have to be Monkey Wrench!
