The Smoking Dragon Festival set in the beautiful Drakensberg mountains returns for its 7th year, inviting one and all to EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC as they jam their way into the New Year. Gone are the days of the standard, cookie cut New Year celebrations. Smoking Dragon Festival offers an insane line-up, in one of the most spectacular settings in the world, with beautiful hikes, tons of adventure activities on offer and is only 3 hours from Jo’burg and Durban

The Main Stage lineup is one to definitely call home. Some of SA’s best acts will be hitting the stage on the 31st of December 2016 – guiding us into the new year with spectacular music and incredible views. Having recently performed with Mac Miller and Foster The People, Grassy Spark is a unique fusion of Ska-blend with multiple genres, where the end product is pure elation. Their beauty lies in the relevance and authenticity of each live show as they go out their way to appease and connect with their crowd. There’s no better way to get down than to their original fusion of reggae and jump-around ska.smoking-dragon_facebook-cover_main-stage_b

What started out with a bunch of Cape Town musos chatting about their mutual and undying love for Bradley Nowell’s music has become one of SA’s most talked about annual shows. Once a year, Sublime fans make the pilgrimage to get their dose of the surf/skate/ska/hip hop/punk they fell in love with way back when. The show is a revolving door of local musicians from bands like 7th Son, Grassy Spark, The Shabeen, Captain Stu, The Rudimentals, Half Price, Peachy Keen and more. For only the second time on their 6 year ride, the SA Sublime Tribute show will be travelling beyond Cape Town. This show was always meant for the festival stage and Smoking Dragon is set to be one for the memories, for the fans and musos alike!

The Rudimentals is a Reggae/Dancehall/Dub and fusion outfit. The Rudimentals frontline singers features 4 of the most highly skilled and electrifying performers in the local industry.  Fronted by local Zimbabwean born hero: T-Boss Maidza, he is flanked by Zimbabwean musical legend King Labash, recent 2016 winner of Zimbabwean Best dancehall video awards, and next, from Brooklyn, NYC, is U.S.A born rapper and all round emerging media personality, is Whosane Pangaea, alongside Jamaican born star, Khaos Cottrell, who also happens to be an international Hugo Boss and Armani Male Model. The band’s legendary status has been earned from over 15 years of positive contributions to the local music industry, catch them live on 31 December only at Smoking Dragon!

7th Son are a band like no other, that defies the parameters and exists on the sharp side of “rude, rock, reggae”. 7th Son quickly grew into an arsenal of acoustics and expanded their backline with the incorporation of some of South Africa’s tightest musicians into the mix. Trenton and the Free Radicals have created a contemporary African sound with universal appeal, and the muscle to unite divergent tastes. It’s revolutionary music geared to ignite dance-floors while exploding our thinking. Music trio the Stone Jets will get you singing along to their upbeat contemporary melodies and well thought out lyrics. DJ inviZAble will share the stage with Komputa General bringing haunting African sounds and fusing them with electronic music unlike anything you’ve ever heard. Lastly but certainly not least Silva Black, a DJ, rap combination taking influence from America and combining it with a hard-hitting African spirit.

These musicians share the main stage with the fierce female Smoking Diva’s line-up and the Best Of line-up consisting of previous year’s performers voted for by the public. Whatever your music preference, Smoking Dragon will satisfy it and introduce you to something new!
