I’ve only ever met one American who had even an inclining of understanding of the Barclays Premier League and he went on to play for their National team in the last World Cup here in South Africa. You would imagine that an American Football coach would be even worse at understanding the game and the subtleties of the beautiful (and real version of football) – and you’d be completely right.
As part of a campaign to promote the fact that the Barclays Premier League was being covered in full for the first time in the USA by NBC, the network giants commissioned a parody video starring Jason Sudeikis as an American Football coach who had made the transition and been hired to coach London giants Tottenham Hotspur. The video goes exactly how you would expect it to with the American Football coach missing the point and saying a whole bunch of things that don’t even make sense. It’s pretty funny stuff, but I’m not entirely sure that this is going to be enough to get more Americans to start watching English footy.
