Last year, MGM and Universal Pictures announced that the iconic 1992 horror film, ‘Candyman‘ will return to cinemas this year, reimagined by writer, director and producer, Jordan Peele.
The original supernatural horror also explored racial segregation in Chicago and is based on the short story “The Forbidden” by Clive Barker. The film follows a graduate student in Chicago completing a thesis on urban legends, which ultimately leads her to accidentally summon the ‘Candyman‘ – a murderous soul of an artist and son of a slave from the late 19th century, with a hook for a hand and a tortured past.
Jordan Peele’s take on the film follows an artist fixated on a mysterious hook-handed killer, deemed the Candyman and stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II from Watchmen. The film comes out on June 12th – watch the first official trailer below and read more on the latest entertainment news, right here.
