Written in Nijmegen, on the border of The Netherlands and Germany, is South African singer-songwriter, Richard Brokensha’s [Kid of Doom and ISO] latest track titled ‘Honey.’
The song, which features Cape Town singer Carla Louw, speaks about being in love with someone in a deeply sensual way – that feeling of completely giving into someone who you adore.”Lyrically, I wanted the collaboration to show it [love] from the female and male perspective, and so this is how I arranged the vocals in the song,” says Brokensha about creating his latest single.
Honey has been one of my favourite song experiences so far. The process from the initial idea in Nijmegen to the finished video shoot in Cape Town has been an incredible collaborative effort.”
The arrangement of ‘Honey’ includes the organ, piano, guitar, drums and a dreamy synth which creates a mystique to the track, while his bluesy-themed guitar riff is inspired by Jimi Hendrix’s intro to the song, ‘Little Wing’.
Brokensha‘s latest track is also accompanied by an equally sensual and moody video. Directed by Hugo Brand, the music video for ‘Honey’ was shot in just three days at three different locations in Cape Town including, Ellerman House and The Fugard Theatre.
One thing I have always dreamt of is performing a guitar solo with the vast ocean in the background and we managed to achieve this on the shoot.”
