One of the most popular PC games of all time, Half-Life just announced it’s big return after 12 years with an epic trailer. Valve – the company behind Steam – revealed the latest edition, titled ‘Half-Life: Alyx‘ and announced March 2020 as the window period for the game’s release. Furthermore, Valve confirmed that the latest instalment of Half-Life would be a “flagship VR game“, offering an interesting take on its first-person-shooter formula.
While Valve may be well known for its online gaming platform Steam, it also has a long history in game development and investing in VR technology, in fact, the company itself was built on the success of the original ‘Half-Life‘ and earlier this year it launched a first-party VR headset, the ‘Valve Index‘.
Half-Life is legendary amongst die-hard gamers for its innovation in early PC gaming. The first game broke ground in the ’90s with its flexible, innovative design and immersive storyline. The physics engine behind “Half-Life” and Half-Life 2 eventually became the foundation for iconic games such as ‘CounterStrike’, ‘Team Fortress,’ and ‘Apex Legends.’ Half-Life 2 was also the first game to mandate the installation of Steam, exposing the platform to millions of players for the first time.
‘Half-Life: Alyx‘ will be available next year for free to all Valve Index owners and for those who don’t own a Valve Index headset, the game will be available for purchase on the Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets and is currently available for PRE-purchase on Steam.
