Last week two meteors were seen lighting up the sky in near the North West province. One meteorite fell between Lichtenburg and Mafikeng, and the one seen in the incredible video posted by Suburban Control Centre below landed between Hartebeesfontein and Coligny.
While this scene might alarm most people, sending them into an apocalyptic frenzy, according to Johan Smit, chairperson of the Astronomical Society of Southern Africa (ASSA) the occurrence of dust, rocks and other space debris falling to Earth is rather common, it’s catching it on camera that’s the anomaly.
