German Artist Max Siedentopf has paid homage to Toto’s iconic song ‘Africa’ and the continent itself by creating an installation in The Namib desert which will play the song for eternity – or until the elements get to it.
The installation -titled ‘Toto Forever’, consists of six speakers attached to an MP3 player on seven stands in the middle of the world’s oldest desert. The artwork is powered by solar energy and is set to play the 80’s classic on an endless loop. Siedentopf has only disclosed an estimated location of the installation so that people may stumble upon it randomly.
Some [Namibians] love it and some say it’s probably the worst sound installation ever. I think that’s a great compliment.” – Max Siedentopf
When Speaking to the BBC, Siedentopf said he wanted the installation to be the ultimate homage and physically exhibit ‘Africa’ in Africa. Find out more in Siedentopf’s video below.
