Up The Creek – 25th Birthday Festival! 29 Jan – 1 Feb

Up the Creek - Belia Oh

It’s almost time for one of our favourite festivals of the year Up the Creek to kick off with a cocktail of superb live acts; all day activities and wacky antics at the fantastically original river stage. Leave the monotony of everyday life behind; grab your sunblock, bling bikini, funky lilo and buddy and head on over to the Breede River– your ultimate music and party getaway weekend awaits!

The final line up for 2015 promises to blow your sunhats off with Wow! and includes some of best live acts that South Africa currently has to offer:

Zebra & Giraffe, Taxi Violence,  Beatenberg , AKING, Dave Ferguson, Bye Beneco, Shortstraw, Hot Water, The Black Cat Bones, The Kiffness, The Ballistics, Stoker, Red Huxley, Scicoustic, Piet Botha & The Lyzyrd Kyngs, Gerald Clark, Mean Black Mamba, Manny Walters, Basson Laubscher, John Wizards, Al Bairre, Christian Tiger School, Gateway Drugs, Manouche, Grassy Spark, Nomadic Orchestra, December Streets, Shaun Jacobs Band, Diamond Thug, Bandelero, Qadasi, Sawagi (JPN) and Kite Rider.

For some off-the-wall fun they are also adding some Laughter Yoga with Kiki Toga and Bitchy Bingo with Mary Scary.

2015 is also Up the Creek`s 25th birthday – and we are going to town!… well, of course not literally… but be assured that the twinkly platteland stars will shine down brightly on the happiest valley in the Malgas area.

Festival organiser, Caitlin Hanley, tells all to:

“come prepared for hours in the sun, floating on the cool Breede River, listening to some of SA’s top artists. Once the river stage comes to an end you can expect the tone to keep climbing. Punters will be treated to surprises at every turn and as each night comes to an end at the Jagermeister main stage, the music will continue at the new Hunters Stage. Up The Creek has something for everyone; in terms of music styles, a variety of food options, camping with or without your cars, and great selection at the various bars so that everyone walks away in a shared state of mind; happy and content.”

This year MK will be back in the form of a colourful Music Kombi. Leading Creekers, as the Pied Piper once did with the rats, down to the Sedgwicks River stage, back up to the Hunters stage and across to the Jagermeister Main stage. Loaded with musicians following the lead of our very own Pied Piper, DJ Dirtroad, the MK kombi will entertain Creekers throughout the weekend. Whether between two bars, at the festival gate, down on the riverbank or even half way up that ‘hill,’ nothing will seem impossible. You can expect to enjoy live performances atop the kombi’s rooftop stage, a bevy of DJs from within the kombi’s belly and perhaps even an appearance from our visiting Drag Queen, Mary Scary.

If you want to rock out in a little more comfort, then the Heartbreak Motel tented accommodation is for you. There are two options of pre-pitched tents, hot showers, toilets, buffet breakfast and other luxuries. For more info and bookings go www.heartbreakmotel.co.za

Once again Sedgwicks Old Brown will be sharing the warmth and creating a food court like no other. Under their Bedouin you’ll be privy to a comfort and vibe as only Sedgwicks can share. The Cape Town food trucks contingent are journeying up to the Creek to bring you the widest range of delicious food. And in true Sedwicks style it just keeps getting better, your breakfast will be accompanied by live music next year and giveaways will be a plenty. Groking won’t be accepted (when is it ever!?) but you can absolutely bibble away to your hearts` content.
