The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa introduced a new 5-star premium rating for hotels and resorts earlier this year.
The introduction of the new rating above the already prestigious 5-star level was in response to a “widespread comparative study completed as part of the grading system review process,” according to BusinessTech.

The upgraded rating is an effort to give recognition to and differentiate accommodation experiences which exceed the 5-star standard through a unique level of quality, innovative design and extensive and bespoke amenities along with world-class luxury standards.
