International skate brand, Vans has teamed up with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and have launched a new fashion series inspired by the Dutch post-impressionist Vincent van Gogh. The limited edition range that is currently on sale now, features iconic prints by Gogh – such as his Skull (1887), Almond Blossom (1890), Sunflowers (1889), van Gogh’s Self-Portrait as a Painter (1887-1888) and Old Vineyard with Peasant Woman (1890). There is also apparel inspired by illustrations from handwritten letters to his brother Theo.
The inner side of the sneakers in the series features customised footbed art of van Gogh’s trademark brushstrokes and the Van Gogh Museum and Vans logos. The shoes also come packaged with a tag with historical facts about the artworks, highlighting Vans and The Van Gogh Museums collaboration efforts. Part of the profits from the sale of the collection will go to the preservation of van Gogh’s legacy and art collection.
[UPDATE]: The entire collection has now sold out on the Vans online store – only limited stock available through selected retailers.
