It’s been more than 6 months since the start of Super Rugby and we have finally reached the climax as the Sharks travel to Hamilton to take on the Chiefs in this year’s Final.
The Sharks are close to the summit of the proverbial mountain which they started climbing after a below-par start to the season. They were able to qualify in 5th and from there the slope only got steeper. They have prevailed thus far, beating the Reds in Brisbane before knocking out the log-topping Stormers at Newlands. The Sharks have hit top form at exactly the right time and seem to be relishing being the underdog. They now face their toughest challenge as they make the long trip back to the North Island of New Zealand, travelling thousands of kilometres for the third time in as many weeks.
The Chiefs, on the other hand, came flying out of the blocks and spent most of the season atop the New Zealand conference and overall log. They floundered slightly toward the end of the regular season but bounced back with an emphatic Semi-Final win over the much favoured Crusaders. There is no doubt that the New Zealanders go into this one as favourites as the home team who have been in New Zealand since half way through May!

The money has been piled on the Chiefs as the handicap moved from -4 to -6 during the course of the week.
