The Ballantine’s True Music Series X Felipe Pantone Tour Is Heading to Langa, Cape Town

Ballantine’s Scotch whisky today announces Langa, Cape Town as the final stop on the True Music Series x Felipe Pantone tour, happening on Sunday 31st March.

Felipe Pantone (read our interview with him here) is known around the world for his iconic artwork that has adorned music spaces such as the Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Hotel and the Life is Beautiful Music Festival in Las Vegas. His collaboration with Ballantine’s for the True Music Series saw him transform limited edition bottles of Ballantine’s Finest and 12 Year Old with specially created artwork inspired by the underground club culture, the recording and production process, and music soundwaves.

Since November last year, Ballantine’s and Felipe have been travelling the world bringing to life the True Music Series artwork with interactive installations in Moscow and Santiago that push the boundaries of the local music scenes through art-led music experiments.

The project culminated in South Africa where Felipe has created a unique mobile performance space with sound reactive audio-visual technology that transforms his Ballantine’s designs into an equaliser as the artists perform. The installation has travelled across the country in recent months, visiting Pretoria and Port Elizabeth, as part of DJ and producer Kid Fonque’s visual podcast series, Kid Fonque Presents, which has seen True Music artists such as Atjazz, Jullian Gomes, Fka Mash, Jay Em, Vinny Da Vinci, Pierre Johnson, Trancemicsoul and Kat La Kat interview and perform against Felipe’s striking backdrop.

The tour will come to a close with an incredible celebration of True Music when Ballantine’s and Kid Fonque bring the installation to the iconic We House Sundays party at the Guga S’thebe Theatre in Langa, Cape Town for a night of great conversation, great music and great drinks. The line-up includes:

    • Respected British producer and DJ Charles Webster
    • Multi-talented local singer-songwriter Sió
    • Legendary We House Sundays crew Soul CrescentLeighton Moody and Lawrence Dix

Kid Fonque said of the project: “What I love about the Ballantine’s True Music Series is its authenticity in bringing together people who love art and music and combining the two, to create an awesome series of experiences for so many people around South Africa. We’ve seen legends of house music mixing it up with new and exciting talent, connecting their music to Felipe Pantone’s inspiring artwork, which has transformed the visual podcasts and performances at each place we’ve visited.”

Tom EltonHead of Music at Ballantine’s, added: “South Africa is really special to us and we’ve been bringing our True Music platform to people all over the country for years now. It’s fitting therefore to culminate our latest True Music Series tour in Cape Town and even more exciting to be able to offer our fans and local artists a completely new music experience through Felipe’s striking audio-reactive artwork. To see Charles Webster and Sio perform live in front of the interactive art installation is going to be incredible and we’re so happy to be able to do it alongside our good mate, Kid Fonque and the We House Sundays crew.”
