The African Hip Hop Indaba brought to you by Heal the Hood & Sprite


The Heal the Hood Project in conjunction with Sprite presents the 2011 AFRICAN HIP HOP INDABA and BATTLE OF THE YEAR (BOTY)

Yup, this one is for all you hip hop heads out there. On Friday 5th August 2011 the African Hip Hop Indaba kicks off and will feature everything from 1vs 1 B-boy Battles, Emcee Battles, DMC DJ Champs & Beatbox Battles at Platinum Lounge (the Base), 88 Short market Street, Cape Town.

The winning DMC DJ will win an all expenses paid trip to represent South Africa at the DMC World DJ Championship in London on the 5th October 2011 along with some other cool cash and prizes.

The 2011 South African Break-dance Qualifier takes place on Saturday 6th August 2011 at the Good Hope Centre in Cape Town with Nu Skool Crew, B-Boy Crew Championship, Popping, Krump, House, under-16 B-boy and B-girl battles all featuring the best local dancing talent.

Founder member of Heal the Hood Project, Emile Jansen, said, “This is the third continental elimination of the world break-dance championships being hosted by Africa. It is a historic
AFRICAN HIP HOP event aimed at uniting African youth.”

The winners of the 2011 BOTY B-boy Crew will win an all expenses paid trip, to participate in the Battle of the Year African finals in Harare Zimbabwe held on the 27th of August 2011 which will see the South African team competing against nations such as Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritius, Congo, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Algeria, Nigeria & Togo – hosted by Jibilika Dance Trust. The winning African team has the honour of representing Africa at the International Battle of the Year Finals held in Montpellier France on 11 November 2011- hosted by Six Step(GER) and Attitude Association(FR)

Registration for participants for both events closes on 22 July 2011.
