The MyCityByNight crew are Cape Tonian through and through- give us any chance to talk about how awesome our city is compared to everywhere else and we’ll do so gladly. Most of the city’s mysticism emanates from that beautiful mountain with the table cloth draped leisurely over it. That very piece of rock- Table Mountain, is now a finalist in the list of for the 7 New Wonders of the World. This is an incredible opportunity to showcase Cape Town and to make sure the best possible image is put forward to the world safety and security on the mountain is paramount.
And so the Table Mountain Forum (TMF) was formed to improve safety and security for South Africans and visitors to the mystical mountain. The Table Mountain Forum (pictured above) was formed in March 2011 to ensure that there is a coordinated body to monitor and improve safety on the mountain at all times. Marc Truss, CEO of the Green Point and Oranje-Kloof City Improvement Districts, was nominated as Chairman, with Melany Kühn from the Office of the MEC for Community Safety as deputy Chairperson. Other role players include SAPS Station Commissioners, the Minister Albert Fritz, Table Mountain National Parks, Cape Town Tourism and various volunteer groups.
As part of a move to make the mountain safe from baddies patrols on foot, bicycles and horses have been increased thereby also decreasing the response time when there are incidents on the mountain. If you do ever get into a spot of trouble just dial: 021 467 8001 and 021 467 8002.
