Stellenbosch Wine Festival 2013

Stellenbosch Wine Festival Scenic

One of the great things about living in South Africa, has to be the fact that we have access to some of the most gifted wine producers in the World, which means more often than not we’re sipping nectar of the Gods that is on par and in most cases better than what you get overseas. The Stellenbosch Wine Festival, which has over time built up momentum as one of the premier events in South Africa’s iconic wine region, kicks off from 25th January to 3rd February with an expanded ten-day program designed to showcase the diverse town of Stellenbosch.

The Stellenbosch Wine Festival, presented by Pick ‘n Pay, offers up wine experiences for both casual fans and connoisseurs, including a ten-day promotion at many of the area’s award-winning restaurants, special cultivar evenings and wine farm tours. Some of the highlighted you can look forward to include a cultivar competition at Kleine Zalze, Sunset concerts at Muratie and Remhoogte, the start of the Harvest Grape Stomping Festival at Delheim and exclusive breakfasts, dinners and tasting experiences from the participating wine farms. If you’re like me and would rather do your own thing, you can also tailor-make your own festival experience by dining in town and at estate restaurants offering special food and wine pairing menus as part of the festival’s “Wine & Dine” sensation programmes.

All of the excitement culminates in the three-day Wine Expo, which will be located in the heart of the vibrant town, and feature interactive stands and tasting programmes from more than 85 wine and gourmet food producers. The Wine Expo takes place from 1 to 3 February on Die Braak and will take full advantage of the beautiful natural surroundings with rustic tables, green décor and free-flowing Bedouin tents. A central stage will play host to Sunset Sounds Concerts including Ard Matthews, Paige Mac and Jeremy Olivier who will keep festivalgoers entertained as they enjoy the fabulous vintages on offer.
