Springbok Squad 2010

The Springbok Squad has been announced with the usual suspect keeping their place without any valid reasion and a huge number have been side lined due to injury. Most recent recently added to the injury list are Schalk Burger and Juan De Jongh. Deon Stegmann and Zane Kirchner have been called up to replace them. We have to remember that there have been large amounts of players who have withdrawn due to injury which is why a lot of new names have been added to this squad. Its good to see the younger names like the Lambies and Jantjies being called up.

What do you think about this squad?

Gio Aplon, Bjorn Basson, Juan de Jongh (replaced by Kirchner), Jean de Villiers, Francois Hougaard, Bryan Habana, Elton Jantjies, Ricky Januarie, Patrick Lambie, Lwazi Mvovo, Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn, Morne Steyn.

Willem Alberts, Bakkies Botha, Schalk Burger (replaced by Deon Stegmann), Keegan Daniel, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Alistair Hargreaves, Ryan Kankowski, Victor Matfield, Tendai Mtawarira, Coenie Oosthuizen, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Juan Smith, Pierre Spies, Adriaan Strauss, CJ van der Linde, Flip van der Merwe.

Jean De Villiers and Chilliboy Ralaphela have also both been side-lined due to injury along with – John Smit, Jaque Fourie, Wynand Olivier, Andries Bekker, Fourie du Preez, Heinrich Brüssow, JP Pietersen, Gurthrö Steenkamp, Butch James, BJ Botha, Ricky Januarie, Schalk Burger and Juan de Jongh.

Some very interesting players have been chosen but its good to see lots of younger players are going to get their chance to shine. Just before the world cup as well which could provide some valuable experience just before we get into the serious phases before the 2011 New Zealand World Cup. Its going to be interesting to see what happens on this Outbound tour. Peter De Villiers needs to get something together and quickly.

Rumoured to have the blue-prints for Krang's TechnoDrome, stolen straight from Dimension X, he’s the type of guy who exudes so much coolness that he adds whole countries on Facebook at one time instead of just people. Always up for a party and a Tequila shot or two this is the guy who we always call first, both before and after a night out…

  1. I have no idea what Flo Louw and Duane V have done to not get called up… Something doesn’t smell right…

  2. Kylitosway: Tell me I am wrong when I say Spies and Kankowski arent any where near Duane? Jeeez, its harsh hey. He has done everything right for the stormers and Province over the last 3 years. Might just see another great player get shipped overseas…

    1. @Kreg Couldn’t agree more. Kankowski great Super rugby player but been found wanting at test level. Spies has been horribly off form and seems he is only great when playing with a dominant tight five in an open game. So to take those two over Duane V to the heavier fields of the NH and playing against teams that like to keep the game tight makes no sense at all… Granted P Divvy never makes sense but aside from the contracts involved (which shouldn’t be an issue as SARU have returned great figures over last 2 years so have cash to pay), something just doesn’t seem right. Especially considering Flo was first choice a few months ago and now not even 5th choice..??!! What happened..? And why has nobody questioned the treatment of Flo..? No justifications coming from Div..? The situation feels tainted and just doesn’t sit right…

  3. The whole Flo situation for me is disgusting. Yes, he had to step up in the Tri Nations and didnt, lost a little form and found incredible amounts of form in the later stages of the Currie Cup and has stolen more balls than any other loosey in the country. That surely should say something. Even when Schalk got injured, they didnt even look at him again. You are right, there has been no justification. Which is really disheartening but once again, u are one hundred percent correct when you say P.Divvy makes absolutely no sense… EVER!

As for Duane, my younger boet and I have watched him since he arrived in the Cape and watched him grow as a player. I feel sorry for the guy, really sorry. When will his hard work ever be paid off? I do hope VERY SOON!

I do like the fact that Lambie and Jantjies got called up, two HUGE future prospects for the Bokke. Even Ashley Johnson, who I dont think is ready yet but with adequate training and experience I think he could also grow into a better (ALTHOUGH – WHERE IS DUANE?)

Oh well, only the outbound tour will tell what these players are going to play like. I must say though, there are some very exciting younger players, I look forward to seeing 🙂

  4. Yip, gonna be awesome… Lambie could be the World’s next best flyhalf… Let’s hope they don’t pull a Ruan on him and start shifting him all over the place… But can’t wait to see some of the youngsters… Jantjies also exciting…
