South African produced film Santana hits #1 on Netflix in 33 countries


Locally produced film Santana shot to number one in over thirty countries during the weekend of its release. As listed by FlixPatrol, Santana took the number 1 spot in Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Sri Lanka, Greece and more.

Santana is written, filmed and edited in Cape Town and stars a handful of local actors including Rapulana Sepheimo, Nompilo Gwala and Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Angolan talent Paulo Americano, Raul Rosario and Neide Van-Dunem Vieira.

The high-energy action film follows law enforcement brothers Dias and Matias as they chase down Ferreira, one of Africa’s most notorious drug lords. As they get closer to Ferreira, the brothers discover he is the same man who murdered their parents 35 years ago. But Ferreira has fled Angola to South Africa, and to get to him Dias and Matias must break the laws they were sworn to protect.

The film is written, directed, and produced by South African Chris Roland and Maradona Dias Dos Santos from Angola. The crew spent 27 days filming all around the Mother City, from Constantia and Woodstock to Paarden Eiland, Gugulethu and all the way to the West Coast. The remainder of the film was shot in Angola.

Santana premiered on Netflix on Friday, August 28 and went on to reach the number one trending film on Netflix on Sunday 30th where it currently still stands at the time of publication.
