South African Bass Artist Chee Releases Minimix on Skrillex’s Nest HQ Label

It always makes us happy seeing South African artists getting the recognition they deserve and Chee, admittedly so, is getting just that. This is not the first time his name has appeared around the biggest in the world, and after releases and mentions with Noisia to this mini mix on Skrillex’s Nest HQ label, it only going up for the Pretoria bass producer.

When one’s musical influences span from J Dilla to Squarepusher to VGM, there’s a solid chance that whatever comes out on the other end is going to fall under the ‘experimental’ designation. Such is the case with South African producer, Chee, who initially came onto our radar last year thanks to the incessant support from the bass music innovators known as Noisia. The Dutch trio, whom Skrillex has consistently attributed to his own growth in production, have featured Chee’s forward-leaning, bass-heavy productions in numerous episodes of their weekly radio show, as Chee’s glitchy, downtempo style fits in well amongst folks like Ivy Lab and Hybris as well as Noisia’s own records.

Rumoured to have the blue-prints for Krang's TechnoDrome, stolen straight from Dimension X, he’s the type of guy who exudes so much coolness that he adds whole countries on Facebook at one time instead of just people. Always up for a party and a Tequila shot or two this is the guy who we always call first, both before and after a night out…
