This has been a massive week in the US of A. After Trump’s inauguration we saw millions and millions of women take to the streets of their cities worldwide to march in solidarity with their sisters in America and with their sisters across the globe, proving once again, the power of numbers. The likes of Madonna, Alicia Keys and Ashley Jude to mention a few gave powerful speeches that the world definitely took notice of that day and we sure fucking hope Donald did too.
Another celebrity, Shia LeBeouf, of course, has created his latest art piece as his stand against Trump’s presidency by staging a protest that will be live streamed – since the day of his inauguration – every single day, 24 hours for the duration of Trump’s presidency. That’s right, 4 years people! The protest titled, “He Wil Not Divide us” is set up outside The Museum of The Moving Image in Queens, New York and encourages passersby to stand before the webcam broadcasting to the world and chant “HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US”.With LaBeouf and Jaden Smith taking to the protest a few times already, along with a good few crowds, so far it’s working out.The whole idea here is to create a mantra “He Will Not Divide Us” that people can declare as an act of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism depending on their opinion and experience.
Just recently though as one would expect, the opposition began to show up. Yesterday LaBeouf was in the crowd protesting as a Nazi made his way to the webcam, spewed talk about white supremacy and landed up with Shia in his face, chanting so aggressively -it even got us riled up- that the hate speaker fled. Later that evening Shia was arrested after an altercation with yet another Trump suporter, this time grabbing him by the scarf and “scratching” him. Cops have been watching over the protest since it began and Shia was in cuffs quickly and will most likely be charged. For now, LaBeouf’s protesters are carrying on without him.
Check out the moments of Shia’s altercation and as well as some clips from the protest. If anything, it’s fascinating to watch. Give the live stream a peek right here: http://www.hewillnotdivi
