After it was made official that Jozi would play host to Sensation ‘Innerspace’ at the Coca-Cola Dome on 7 September 2013, we were all left wondering about who they could possibly get to make the night out, one for the history books. Yesterday, the lineup for Sensation South Africa was made public and you could not help but feel a little bit let down by the choice of djs for the monumental event. South Africa is a market that features a mix of die-hard electronic music fans who dissect every beat and song drop and casual listeners who are keen to get out and hear that doef doef music, not really caring who the dj was (as long as they’d heard it on 5FM before). Both of the segments have one thing in common – the need to be sold on an experience that combines both aural and visual delights. I think this party might cover the visual but not the aural (well not fully at least). Here’s a look at the lineup again:
Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano
Daniel Sanchez and Juan Sanchez
The night gets kicked off on a deep/tech house note by Sensation’s resident opening DJ, Mr White and is followed by Grammy-nominated producer and DJ, Nic Fanciulli. I’m sure that Mr White is going to get everyone grooving, only to be followed by the masterful Nic Fanciulli with his house and techno beats, but post this is where I start to worry. Next up is a dj duo of Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, who have apparently both performed at numerous Sensation events around the world, but are relatively unknown to me. Following them on the lineup is another duo who I’ve not really heard much about, Daniel Sanchez and Juan Sanchez, residents of the ‘Innerspace’ tour. Then finally, my faith in the party organisers’ usually flawless musical tastes was restored by the inclusion of the just damn exceptional Thomas Gold. This guy will have everyone going off their tits with his awesome full throttle big room sounds – 100%.
I just feel like they shouldn’t have held back – I’m totally sure that the event is going to be memorable, every #GalaxyExperience is, but lets just hope that the other names on the lineup that we’re not so sure about bring the heat.
Coinciding with the Sensation DJ line-up announcement, International premium beer brand, Heineken®, has also confirmed it will be an official partner of the long-awaited event. The partnership with Sensation ‘Innerspace’ is an extension of Heineken®’s global affiliation with ID&T and acts as the launch of Heineken® Live Access, a campaign that aims to open SA’s music lovers to a world of global progressive music experiences with a series of events rolling out this summer.
