Looking for beautiful wine, top drawer food and a stylish setting in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town? Ta-dah, here we go.

Location

It’s quite ridiculous really, how gorgeous BistroSixteen82 is. It’s set up on the mountains and is inside the winery on Steenberg wine and golf estate. The bar is a knock-out modern design and the Bistro itself is light and airy and tumbles elegantly onto glass box water features and greenery.

Food

I call it a ‘gastro-bistro’ because Chef Brad Ball is somewhat of a maestro with flavour and no-nonsense, beautiful plates of great food.

His ‘small plates’ (small plates of tapas-style food) are quite fab – gorgeous zucchini fritters, rich tomato sauce swathed meatballs and a singular quail were amongst my favourites at my last visit.

Prices are really reasonable for the small plates and vary between R35 –R70
The main menus are a little pricier but it is well worth it – Salads R48, Starters R64 and up, Mains R105 and up with good portions.

Breakfast is also a big thing and there are things like ‘naked’ oysters, Shrooms on rosti with Taleggio cheese and truffle (I mean, wow!), Brads bacon and all manner of eggs. Prices from R48-R70.

The Raw Bar is also something to experience too, Brad does his own curing and there are all sorts of charcuterie, oysters and more.

Fabulous wine from the estate abounds – try their delightful fizz and the Nebbiolo red is delish.

Occasion

Vibey and busy, this is a place to meet friends and enjoy the good things in life. There’s a brilliant movie night Winter Special on at the moment, so book now.

Plus points and tips

The famous foie burger on Fridays (he only makes 10), is out of this world and the Beef Tataki is life changing.
