Review| A Gaian Wet Dream

Hoping that the gods would grace us with a pleasantish day was too much to ask as they pissed on that idea while they laughed and frolicked in the sun touched clouds above. Oh well, cue mud, cue phenomenal tunes and a tent full of drenched people that I’m sure are all still stuck in Riviersonderend.

Organik and the farm owners tried their best to navigate people through the mud but it was the most rainfall the area has had in forever and no one could have ever anticipated the floods that occurred over last weekend. It was dismal, resistance was indeed futile so we all got…. um… stuck in, I guess. (I’ve got terrible flu so excuse my shit jokes)

I could go on about the rain and I am going to, because its fun and it makes for hilarious and not-so-hilarious stories at this event in particular but that’s not for now. Bruce, what a guy, give this guy a bells or whatever beverage he desires. I got to this party, hating life and within 30 mins of being there I was stomping in the rain to this man. What a pro! Mud dancing, sky praying, revellers were throwing out all the stops to keep a smile on this man’s face while getting a tad bit warmer.

Headroom, looking dapper, as if he owned the farm and the weather did not concern him stepped up to the plate and just bumped hey. No real other way to describe it. Went in. And fucking bumped. Bump bump bump. I am never unimpressed by Mr Room and on this day he did not falter. Bump bump bump! Yoh! Back in the rain, shoes are buggered, barefoot it is. People are still going as strong as they are able to go.

Mr Copeland brings in his usual barrage of all things Broken Toy. A very talented musician that comes out on a spectacular sunny day, with no sun screen I might add, and rocks a crowd as if there was a slight drizzle afoot. Ja, sounds right. Great sounds, great energy, it was a treat.

By this time the rain had not stopped and it was not going to stop. Cars had to be towed via tractor as they were all deeply set in mud that smelt like not-mud. The saga continues….

If I am allowed to say Mac daddy just once in reference to Dave Mac and not get shouted at or shunned then this is the time that I am going to use it. I have seen many a Dave Mac set but this was something special. He came in with a mixture of goodness that kept me going as spirits were low. A triumphant DJ set, to say the least!

I had to do some admin during the last bit of music so I can’t give you an accurate description of Connecto or Sterealkey but what I can say is that when I floated in and out of the dancefloor it was sounding rather good.

Quick summary: it rained. music was tits. we all survived.

Thanks to all involved and thanks to everyone being so pleasant about it being unpleasant. It’s what makes these parties sustainable for years to come. Props.

Papa Afrika out 🙂

Rumoured to have the blue-prints for Krang's TechnoDrome, stolen straight from Dimension X, he’s the type of guy who exudes so much coolness that he adds whole countries on Facebook at one time instead of just people. Always up for a party and a Tequila shot or two this is the guy who we always call first, both before and after a night out…
