☆ *´¨`*: INTRODUCING THE INTERNATIONAL TALENT!
❋ ENZO SIRAGUSA (FUSE, London)
Enzo Siragusa is something of an institution on the London scene. Having played his records around the city’s finest clubs for over a decade, this sound obsessive DJ has forged ahead with his own event and brand, FUSE. Taking place in East London’s infamous 93 Feet East since 2008, his weekly Sunday session has built up a loyal following and evolved its own unique dub-house and techno sound which the FUSE faithful call ‘Fusic’.
Enzo on his own terms is also much in demand, with gigs taking him all over Europe, including the terrace at Space in Ibiza for Richie Hawtin’s Enter night, Circo Loco at DC10 and the much missed Bar25 in Berlin. His stock has risen this past year playing alongside the likes of Cassy and Marco Carola to name but a few, Loco Dice calling upon him to play his UK Under 300 date, and his close partnership with tINI, regularly playing their now legendary marathon b2b sets.
The famed FUSE brand also pushes its ‘Fusic’ sound around the world courtesy of a residency at Sankeys Ibiza. Unsurprisingly, then, the night has also spawned a label. The Fuse London label allows Enzo to indulge his obsession with sound and provides a platform for him, his residents and friends to release the music that works on the FUSE dancefloor. Thus far the label has seen releases from the residents and Enzo himself releasing the popular debut ‘Sagamore’. Of course, other reputable labels have come calling for Enzo’s production and remix talent, including Davide Squillace for his new label This & That. Enzo has also collaborated with Afrilounge under his Leifko moniker and is remixing alongside Chris Lattner for his own Fuse London label.
With such esteemed projects on the go, and his own productions garnering more and more attention, years of passion and commitment to the scene are beginning to reward Enzo Siragusa with the attention and credit he deserves.
❋ ALEXKID (REKIDS, DESOLAT, Paris)
There is Paris, and then there is Berlin. One pops out in neon-colored rave, the other marches in minimal technicolor. While having switched the first for the other, Alexis Mauri, better known as Alexkid, has become one of those hugely respected figures in the underground club sphere that broadens expectations from all directions. Truth be spoken, there are very few artists who can look back on a 20 year career and still be as relevant as he is.
Alexis’ inventive Live arrangements and DJ sets have taken him to the four corners of the world, but it’s been a built-in state of zen that has taken him further. Dealing as much with the absence of sound, punches of silence and punctuated smoothness, his leftfield house staple is, in a way, as intuitive as jazz. His refined production skills have played a pivotal role in drawing the profile of a revolution in the French electronic underground. With three critically acclaimed albums, released on F Communications, he has firmly embedded himself in the international scene. Other producers call for his sound engineering skills, as his playful geekiness bears profound balance and precision. Currently a highly sought-after remix artist, Alexkid has signed reworks for everyone, from Damian Lazarus to Nina Kraviz, and even George Michael, released on renowned labels like NRK, Rekids, Desolat, Freerange, Cadenza or Supplement Facts, among many others.
In a sea of post-modern confusion and digital diffusion, gems get lost in a whirlwind of half-decent, generic music. We’re often left to wonder just how much of an artists’ inner glow we hear? Looking realistically on his perspectives, Alexkid is set on a constant self- redefinition path. Having had residences in various Berlin clubs for the past eight years, he has finally settled in at Watergate, turning regular live performances into fresh celebrations of the moment, as well as at the Rex Club in his hometown.
“It has to be physical”, he says. But Alexkid’s interpretations of other artists’ music extend far beyond the DJ booth. It’s always about emotional elasticity when it comes to creating a connection with the audience. Ranging from oldschool to more stripped down sounds, his particular brand of sonic sensibility seamlessly translates into crowd interaction. It’s never about gaining confirmation alone, but of how never being 100% happy sets the tone for distinction. Not afraid to endanger himself artistically, he realizes the importance of taking liberties in order to make everything fit in like a glove. In between, sleep is for the weak.
