The internet has recently been taken back by the release of the designs for a new rooftop infinity pool set to open in London.
Compass Pools are designing a massive swimming pool that will sit atop a 55-story building in the heart of London. The infinity pool will encompass the entire rooftop and have 360-degree views of the city. But since the pool fills the rooftop end-to-end, many people are wondering just how one would get in and out of it.

Some Twitter users compared the pool to a building experiment gone wrong in the game, ‘The Sims.’ But this swimming pool is truly unlike any other you’ve seen before and will reportedly the first of its kind in the world. The design is complex and unique and is actually quite mind-blowing.
The Compass Pools website explains that swimmers would have to make use of a spiral staircase which is “based on the door of a submarine that rises from the pool’s floor”. Speaking to INSIDER, Alex Kemsley, a pool designer and technical director for Compass Pools, said the staircase up to the rooftop pool would work like “a tube in a tube.”
“The first tube is to ‘cut a path’ through the water and create an airlock. The second tube delivers the staircase up to water level,” he said. Kemsley also noted that the staircase would be controlled by a programmable logic controller to ensure that all locks and valves operate in sync.
Other than its fascinating entry/exit design, the pool will also feature a crystal clear floor so that swimmers can see guests below them and vice versa. Construction on the tower is set to start in 2020.
