International advocacy group, Global Citizen announced on Monday that it will be hosting its very first festival right here in South Africa. The festival is part of Global Citizen’s Mandela 100 campaign which will be a series of global events honoring the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela in his centenary year.
The event will feature a variety of A-list celebrity hosts and artists with Hip-Hip royalty, Jay-Z and Beyoncé headlining the entire event. But get this? The festival taking place at FNB Stadium Johannesburg will be FREE! That’s right no-one attending the festival will actually have to pay for the ticket, but there’s a twist though – you will need to earn your entrance to the event. In other words, only those who have worked to earn their ticket over the next few months will get to watch the global stars live.
Apparently, it really doesn’t matter if you could afford one or fifty tickets, passes will only be rewarded to those who take action and ‘earn points’. However, tickets are not guaranteed for your work and the task should be seen as more than just a means to see your favorite artists – it should be seen as a way to honor the late Madiba this year.
However, South Africans, as much as we love Madiba, were left a little disheartened by the hectic vetting process. It’s not every day we get to see Beyoncé and Jay-Z in SA, you know! Here are the best reactions from SA Twitter and if you have any hope of attending this legendary event, best you hop ‘into action’, sign up and start earning points to Global Citizen Festival right here.
