We have a lot to celebrate in this beautiful country, and our food is certainly a major part of the festivities! We’ve been looking forward to locking into South African cuisine in a previously undiscovered way for quite some time, so we’re very excited to bring you the menu we’ve painstakingly designed with the hope that you will see our local food in a much broader sense than simply pap and wors!
What makes South African food so exciting is just how diverse and exposed we are to a myriad of other cultures and how this has helped shape our culinary identity as a country. We are hearty, healthy, sweet, spicy, HOT, cold, sour and tangy, we have so many grains, pulses, fruits, meats and veggies to choose from and also so many cultures to explore. Khanya (the mind behind this rather unique food popup) looks forward to honouring Xhosa food with some of our major staples – expect ingredients like samp, pumpkin leaves, slow-braised, grass-fed beef and indigenous edible succulents like soutslaai and spekboom. This dinner honours all South Africans and gives a nod to our beauty, complexity and diversity.
