NOODBOX is our new Ramen obsession


Ramen, the irresistible Japanese noodle soup that’s eaten (if not celebrated) in all corners of the globe, has a rich history and many regional variations. Its versatility means that it can be endlessly customised and reimagined, and just about everyone loves it!

Ramen is delicious, traditional and timeless – a cultural icon and the inspiration behind Momofuku Ando’s 1958 instant noodles invention – dubbed one of the greatest Japanese inventions of the 20th century! 

And now, lucky Cape Town locals will be able to indulge in a fresh, authentic Ramen experience in the comfort of their own home with the launch of the new and innovative Noodbox.

We recently tried the new takeout experience that locals have been raving about, but it’s not “fast food” as you’d imagine it. Noodbox delivers boxes of fresh produce that (all together) make the most delicious Ramen in just 5 minutes. Noodbox offers customers a modern-day Ramen experience with five mouth-watering dishes to choose from. 

What’s even better is, you can store your Noodboxes for up to 5 days in the fridge, should you purchase more than one box at a time. We ordered their Beef Shoyu and Chicken Shoyu, as well the Chicken Mushroom Tikka Masala. Every dish exceeded expectations, and it’s honestly as easy as 1,2,3:

  1. Heat your broth in a small pot.
  2. Once it begins to boil, add your noodles and protein. Or, simply heat for 5 minutes in the microwave. 
  3. Add to a bowl and garnish with fresh veg, herbs, spring onion, sesame seeds – each dish is different!

That’s it! Meshiagare!

The fantastic thing is, you can get creative and add whatever else you want, like some fresh chillis or crushed cashews. 

While the final product might leave you feeling like a MasterChef, the excellence in the dishes lies in the phenomenal prep work and the care taken to source and combine all ingredients perfectly. 

The brains (and flavour master) behind the Noodbox concept, Lemar Desamparado, is a qualified chef with more than 15 years of experience in the culinary industry. Desamparado has worked in various esteemed establishments around the world, from Nobu in Dubai, Katsuya in Kuwait City, to some of the top restaurants and hotels, right here in Cape Town including, The Bungalow, Zenzero, The Alphen Hotel, The One & Only and was also the Head Chef of the Century City Conference Centre and Hotel.

Lemar’s influences, rooted in his Asian heritage as well as personal experiences while travelling, helped galvanise the concept behind Noodbox – a concept in which he hopes to share his life’s work and passion with the world, starting right here in Cape Town.
