Nike confirms Back2TheFuture Marty McFly Power Laces for 2015

Yesterday the news broke that Nike was going to be releasing Marty McFly’s self-lacing high-tops from Back to the Future II for mass consumption. In 2011 Nike did do a limited run of 1,500 pairs, which were all auctioned on eBay for a total of $6 million, all donated to Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

They were probably the coolest shoes of my generation and soon you’ll be able to purchase a pair yourself (even if you aren’t an oil baron). Just look at them =>

Although final details around the tech are still a little bit sketchy, there have been reports that Nike will be using an Arduino micro-controller that senses the pressure of the wearers foot once they step into the sneaker and activates two servo motors, which then apply tension to the laces, tightening the shoe. A touch switch can be used to reverse the process, thus giving you the coolest shoes ever. Check out the original clip from the movie below:
