New Kid On The Block – Roast & Co.

There is a new kid on the block, surrounded by local favourites like HQ, IYO Burger and Burger & Lobster: introducing Roast & Co., where South African favourites, soul food and comfort food take on a modern twist!

With their farm-to-table dining experience, sourcing free-range chickens from Elgin, wholesome food is brought to your table every lunch and dinner, whether sitting inside the French farming inspired interior, or in the festive courtyard with a trendy bar and fairy lights. You are surely going to be left feeling as stress-free as their free-range chicken!

Putting modern twists on classic treats like chicken Caesar salad and hearty mac n’ cheese, Roast & Co. introduces chicken Caesar croquettes, served on crunchy gem lettuce, grana padano and celery dressing, Mzanzi fried mac n’ cheese, on a bed of chakalaka salsa, topped with sage and sour cream, and baked camembert with smoky mayonnaise, yogurt and vanilla honey. These modern twists are sharing plates to start off your meal, but do not fill yourself up, because you need to leave some space for juicy rotisserie chickens from R65-R210!

Served by the quarter, half, or whole, and served with Roast & Co.’s special gravy, these rich chickens go perfectly with one of their many sides, from the hearty roast potatoes, pumpkin fritters, warm Roast & Co. brioche served with some farm butter, charred corn, truffle oil drizzled pap, and for something lighter, either butter lettuce and avocado salad, or house pickled slaw with sprouts and a perfectly tart and sweet raspberry dressing.

Head over there for a fine selection of wines, beers on tap and delightful cocktails, and select a couple of canapés (R14 per piece), based off of their sharing starters, like fried mac n’ cheese balls, Elgin farmhouse liver pate on toasted crostini and orange, onion bhaji’s with curry spice and herbed yogurt, and some extra special canapés which solely feature on the canapés menu: spicy jerked chicken sliders, chicken ‘lollipops’ with barbecue tomato pesto and blue cheese, and HQ sirloin cubes.

Hang out until it is dessert time, and try out their crispy churros, rocky road popsicles or their banana split vs. cheesecake, you will not be disappointed!

A 4.5 for this new local joint!
