Watch the new extended trailer for Jordan Peele’s terrifying remake ‘Candyman’

In 2019, MGM and Universal Pictures announced that the iconic 1992 horror film ‘Candyman‘ would return to cinemas, reimagined by writer, director and producer, Jordan Peele.

The film is the upcoming “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 modern horror classic ‘Candyman’ and is produced and written by Jordan Peele and Get Out creator Nia DaCosta. DaCosta also co-directed the feature alongside Bernard Rose.

The original horror explored themes of racial segregation and was based on the short story “The Forbidden” by Clive Barker. The ’92 film follows a graduate student in Chicago completing a thesis on urban legends, which ultimately leads her to accidentally summon the ‘Candyman‘ – a murderous soul of an artist and son of a slave from the late 19th century, with a hook for a hand and a tortured past.

The sequel will take place a decade later, after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, and follow the story of artist Anthony (portrayed by Abdul-Mateen II) and his girlfriend (Teyonah Parris) who move into a loft in the now upmarket Cabrini.

A chance encounter with an old-timer exposes Anthony to the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to use these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, he unknowingly opens a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence.

Candyman is set to premiere on 27 August 2021. Watch the extended trailer below and read more on the latest entertainment news, right here.
