New Basement Jaxx video shot in Jozi’s Alexandra township

Over the weekend I saw the latest video from the Basement Jaxx for their tune “What a Difference Your Love Makes”, only to notice that the video was shot in our very own Alexandra Township. Apart from showcasing some of the sights and sounds of one of SA’s most expansive townships the video from the British dance music legends also featured another homegrown addition to global culture in the Pantsula dance.

The story goes that the Pantsula originated in Alexandra as far back as early as the 1950s and since then it has become a firm part of South African dance culture and history. The song almost feels as if it was written for the video (even though it wasnt) and has a distinctly Summery sound. I love the fact that it’s yet another video for an International artist that was shot right here on our SA shores. The brand new album from the Basement Jaxx is due on the 30th of September.
