If you thought that Nate Diaz seemed far more chilled after his fight with Conor McGregor at UFC 202 than usual it was probably because he was high as a kite after hitting a vape pen filled with cannibidiol oil during his post-match interviews.
Nate Diaz admitted that the vape pen he was hitting contained CBD, which is one of the 113 active cannabinoids in cannabis. Cannabis is considered to be a “specified substance” by the UFC anti-doping policy. This means that it’s not an anabolic or hormonal agent, but is still prohibited by the fight agency with any athlete found to be in violation of these rules facing a one year suspension from the sport.
USADA spokesperson Ryan Madden told MMA Fighting:
I can confirm that USADA is aware of the situation and is currently gathering information in order to determine the next appropriate steps.
Seriously, what a tool – he probably got paid some mega bucks by the makers of the vape pen and doesn’t really give a crap about not being able to fight in the UFC for the next year.
