MyHouse – DJ’s & Producers, Take A Look!

You know MyCityByNight loves their music, social media and technology. You can imagine our excitement when MyHouse put forward their  most recent creation. We live in a world where promotion can be done in many ways, such as Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud etc – the list could go on. Social media has helped us in so many ways including self promotions and we all know how hard that can be. In steps MyHouse, is a social media web based application aimed at the DJ/Producing community (as well as the every day user, like you and I) to expand their productions, playlists & promotion of themselves through many rooms in ONE HOUSE – MyHouse.

I haven’t fully grasped the concept, but as I have been playing around more and more as the day goes by with MyHouse and I find it incredibly mind blowing that all your Social Media feeds are running through one platform WHILE you can still continuously play tunes. Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter, Forums, Communities – the list continues. It has to be one of the more easier accessible platforms as well. The login in was simple and smooth, the uploading of tracks and tunes was quick and easy and the navigation in and around MyHouse was fantastic.

The below information, serves as a “small” walk through of MyHouse from the MyCityByNight perspective.

 What IS MyHouse?

Social media has had a fundamental impact on our lives, as we share, converse and grow far beyond our geographic limitations, but in some ways fail to actually pull together key talents and the perfect match to drive projects forwards and actually achieve our goals. MyHouse-Central addresses this very gap and consolidates some of the most powerful tools already widely used including Facebook, Youtube, Soundcloud, Flikr and Twitter to give its users the one stop shop resource for the music industry.

Getting seen or heard is tough and it’s becoming harder to spot the real talents and the right people to engage. This platform utilises the technologies of today, word of mouth and referrals to give you the unbiased, uncut information you need. Showcase your talent, search and connect all under the one roof.

Predominantly targeted at DJ’s & Producers, but catering for ANYONE in the music industry, the site bridges the gap between you and the people you need to engage with, driving you forwards in whatever you choose to do. List yourself in the directory, import your Soundcloud audio files and be found by unbiased and informative search.

Cut through the noise, promote yourself, find your way.

We get chatting to the MyHouse crew:

MCBN: First of all, can you give us a breakdown of what MyHouse is?

MyHouse is fundamentally a directory for the music industry. Its concept is built around a floor plan, with different rooms and functions within those rooms, much as you may find in your own house.

MCBN: Who is behind the project and how did it come about?

MyHouse came about in the early 2000’s and revolved around a club night with a house music policy. Cape Town’s Aubrey Price later joined the ranks to form a perfect partnership and back-to-back duo with founder Stevie Dee. Our residency, a quirky venue called Bar Sia in London, was the perfect output for our music and offered a countless number of epic nights. At the time, Stevie scheduled all the promotions and DJ’s for the venue and went on to meet a huge number of talented individuals and developed an in depth understanding of their wants and needs.

Initially, the floor plan concept was used to promote MyHouse parties, but was quickly opened up to the idea of offering the platform to others and for them to promote themselves. Art-el Bam was pivotal in bringing the concept to life and did a fantastic job with the look and feel.

Theergonomics and navigation of MyHouse-Central is completely different to traditional sites and offers a new and intuitive way of moving between each of the rooms. The floor plan concept ties in with not only our identity but also the deeper undertones of immersive music culture – where music becomes part of your culture, your way of life and where you ultimately feel at home in MyHouse.

In the music industry, MySpace was in its decline and social media was beginning to have a massive impact on our lives, as we share, converse and grow far beyond our geographic limitations, but in some ways fail to actually pull together key talents and the perfect match to drive projects forwards and actually achieve our goals. MyHouse-Central addresses this very gap and consolidates some of the most powerful tools already widely used including Facebook, Youtube, Soundcloud, Flikr and Twitter to give its users the one stop shop resource for the music industry.

MCBN: Can anyone join MyHouse?

Sure! There are many reasons why you may want to join and you can use the tools as little or as much as you like depending on your requirements. You may want to simply search for talent or utilise all the tools to promote yourself and take you forward. It’s completely free and Facebook friendly or if you prefer you can sign up with your own MyHouse login.

MCBN: MyHouse looks like a global platform for artists to basically share information and beats while at the same time allowing the general public to see what they are up to?

That’s right, you can follow artists, create favourite lists and if you use Facebook to sign up you can very easily keep tabs on what your existing network is up to on MyHouse.

MCBN: What features make MyHouse stand above all the other current platforms sharing music and information?

Getting seen or heard is tough and it’s becoming harder to spot the real talents and the right people to engage. Almost every DJ thinks they are amazing, but this means little to anyone else. When we shop, we like to ask our peers, Google or forums for any experience or feedback before we buy. This concept is adopted on the MyHouse platform and allows its members to search, read other peoples feedback, listen and connect all under the one roof.

There are without doubt some amazing tools out there, and we have no interest in competing with them. Instead, we have pulled together the most powerful of these tools into one platform that allows its members (Housemates) to get what they need through informed choice. It is this combination and delivery that offers the real gain in exposure and convenience.

MCBN: You have thrown 2 years of hard work into this project, where do you see MyHouse in 3 years from now?

This concept has been in the making for many years, the last 2 have been where we can actually see it coming together and it’s a really exciting time. The proof is in the pudding and we are at the turning point where we see if the music industry really takes to it or not. Initially we would like to see confirmation that this gap in the market is filled and some signs of positive growth. Passing this milestone we can justify investing more time and money and bolting in much more functionality.

You may notice the kitchen is currently closed. This will be the next room to open and we plan to offer full event listing capabilities with some pretty handy integration and functionality. Watch this space!

Features Of MyHouse:

Connectivity:

Fully integrated with Facebook graph, anyone who adds a listing , mix or demo has the option of posting this addition to the users wall, bringing a huge amount of viral exposure and the distance between you and 600 million people much closer.

Key benefit:

This site pulls in all the powerful tools already available (Facebook / Twitter / soundcloud / flikr) and bundles them together in user friendly and intuitive way.

You can search, read up, listen and connect all under the one roof. Users expect to be approached by strangers, to work together on projects. That is the difference between MyHouse and Myspace / Facebook / soundcloud etc.

Various Rooms:

Hall (Admin, mailbox and managing your settings and content)
Bathroom (Recent activity of your network on MyHouse and our live twitter feed)
Living room (Forum / TV / merchandising)

Basic Walk-through:

Go to the Library (The heart of the site)

Perform an advanced search

DJ is a good category to search for, but leave the other options open. This should give you a couple of results.

Play a mix, then go through the options underneath the audio.

Add to favourites (actually add a mix to your favourites) / read / share / like / contact and finally – cue to player.
This lets you navigate to other pages whiles continuing to listen to the audio.

The quick links in the left take you through the process a user should go through so they:

  • Submit your listing
  • Upload any audio to their profile
  • Gather feedback on their listing.
  • Invite buddies

Quick login via Facebook or create your own MyHouse account (I have already made one, so I suggest you should too)

Once you have registered, you can upload your own mixes or production as well as submitting your directory listings.

Rumoured to have the blue-prints for Krang's TechnoDrome, stolen straight from Dimension X, he’s the type of guy who exudes so much coolness that he adds whole countries on Facebook at one time instead of just people. Always up for a party and a Tequila shot or two this is the guy who we always call first, both before and after a night out…
