There is nothing like dining under Table Mountain, sea breeze in your hair, and a glass of rosé or prosecco in hand, and there is no better place to do this than Mondiall, at the V&A Waterfront.
One of the Mother City’s biggest attractions can be enjoyed under high ceilings, upmarket décor, and some of the finest food in the Cape. Mondiall is definitely one of our favourite spots.
They recently launched their new menu, which is host to some good old favourites, and some new delicacies. We opted for two starters and two mains, with the hopes that we would still be hungry enough for dessert. As we sipped on our sparkling rosé we waited on our apple and gorgonzola salad, with sweet dried cranberries, toasted walnuts, and a honey mustard dressing, and our pork belly with a honey and soy glazing, pineapple chutney and house oriental slaw. The fusion of flavours, sourced from all over the world, individually pack a punch, and make your mouth water for the next course!
An oldie, but a goodie, the game fish tacos always make their way to our table, fresh soft flour tortillas, topped with seared game fish, oriental slaw and a side of avocado and tomatillo salsa. Squeeze a little lemon on there and the already perfect taco gets a little bit better. Something new we had to try this time around was their risotto of the day, with seasonal vegetables and overflowing with Parmigiano and micro greens: this time it was a tomato based risotto with roasted aubergine and carrots, and there was nothing more comforting to our Italian roots than that bowl of perfectly al dente risotto.
If you manage to fit in a little dessert, order a cocktail from their extensive menu and enjoy the view as you wait to end your meal with something sweet, and while this is not traditional, we love their baked camembert with figs, truffle honey and macadamia nuts, but if you like something more classic, you cannot go wrong with any of their desserts like their crème caramel with Madagascan vanilla and apples, their tonka bean cheesecake with butterscotch caramel, fresh berries and macadamia nuts, or a simple, yet always good, chocolate tart.
SO be a little indulgent, grab your ladies for a mid-week lunch, go for a business meeting, or just stop by for an early dinner and sundowner as you watch the sunset on the port as city lights brighten.
Mondiall’s ever-evolving seasonal menu using fresh local produce in their casual brasserie is sure to have everyone coming back for more.
Our dining scale only goes up to 5, but Mondiall always gives us their best, so can we give them a 10?!
