If you werent already aware- this month is Movember… A month dedicated to the promotion of male testicular health and creating awareness around testicular cancer. The boys over at MyCityByNight are firmly behind the cause and if you happened to catch the likes of us on SABC 3’s Expresso morning TV show a week or 2 back, you would have seen us rocking our mo’s with pride! (especially Kreg, with his nik-nak like bit of facial hair).
The moustache or “mo” is our version of the female ribbon that is used for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Its a real threat as cancer is one of the biggest killers of men (other than women, hehe) globally with 1 in 23 men being diagnosed with prostate cancer and 1 in 26 diagnosed with testicular cancer. Men are generally less conscious about their health than women are and our life expectancy is about 5 years less than women, which is why it is very important to promote male health and get rid of some of the stigma that surrounds it. South Africa has partnered with CANSA and through people like us it is hoped that we can raise funds and awareness for programmes that combat the scurge of this nasty little disease.
If you would like to help out you can register on the Movember site after which you will be sent deets for donation/sponsorship through the page of CANSA.
Today marks the midway point in the month of Movember and even though I struggle to grow any form of facial hair, I’ve given it a bash- its tough- the amount of times I’ve been asked for my autograph because people mistake me for being one of the members of Menudo or to clean their pools is simply ridiculous.
Its all for a good cause though… Come on MyCityByNight Alumni– get involved 🙂
