13/7 Extrema Outdoor – Eindhoven, Netherlands
A festival near Amsterdam that attracts over 85 000 people for 1 day of absolute mayhem. This year will see exclusive performances by Justice & Knife Party, Sub focus and Modestep. South Africa’s Goodluck will also be performing this year along side other headliners – Major Lazer, Nicky Romero, A-trak, Porter Robinson, Digitalism and Dada Life. The organisers have a view that “the future for electronic music festivals lies with more live music and comprehensive experiences, both on and off stage.”
18/7 Dour – Dour, Belgium
Dour is a small French speaking village in Belgium, that is taken over once a year, by this incredible festival. Now in It’s 25th year, Dour offers a diverse international line up, for a seriously reasonable ticket price. Andy C, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, Booka shade, Brodinski, Carl Craig, Camo & Krooked, Dj Shadow, Erol Alkan, Flume, Jurassic 5, Petite Noir (South Africa), Pleasurecraft, Modeselektor live, Rusko, Sub Focus live are just some of the more familiar names listed on the 4 day, 7 stage bohemith of a festival programme.
25/7 The Secret Garden Party – Huntingdon, Cambrideshire, UK
Known for it’s incredible décor and art installations, it is a wonderland of festival exploration. Each year it is themed, this year’s theme is ‘Superstition’. The organisers take a similar approach to Burning Man, “Our number one rule is that the party must facilitate your participation. To ensure this principle is upheld we give half of all ‘programming’ money back to you in the form of arts and expression grants.”
Artists include: Faithless Live, 2 Many Dj’s, Altered Natives, Beatbox Collective, Das Kapital, Dismantle & Breakage, Dodge & Fuski, Electric Honey Badgers, Evil Nine, Foamo, Hadouken! Live, Josh Butler, Loadstar, Plump DJ’s, The Prototypes and More.
A massive German machine of a festival, featuring more than 300 artists on 26 stages, in just 2 days! The stage designs are the cutting edge of what’s technically possible, bearing in mind Germany are the ones who actually manufacture some of the biggest sound systems in the world. Umek, Sven Vath, Paul van Dyk, Tube & Berger, Dominik Eulberg, Vitalic AKA AKA &/ Thalstroem, Marek Hemman, Felix Da Housecat, Milk & Sugar, Markus Schulz, Zedd are just a few names on this speaker throbbing electronic line-up.
05/8 Sziget – Paradise Island, Budapest, Hungary
Winner of ‘Best Major festival’ at the European Music Festival Awards, 2011. Attracting over 400 000 fans from over 70 countries, on an island in the heart of Budapest, the 7-day program includes artists such as Chase & Status live, TEED, Feed Me, Nero, Booka Shade live, Noisia, Netsky live, Parov Stellar band, Tame Impala, Franz Ferdinand and Skunk Anansie amongst many others. The anticipation for this year’s event is overwhelming.
23/8 Creamfields – Liverpool, UK
“Emerging from one of the most well-known clubbing names in the industry, Cream, and boasting such an exciting line-up of artists you can see why it is so popular.” (Claire Elshaw 26/8/2012)
Featuring 200 artists spread over 20 Arenas, all featuring some of the biggest names in dance music. Pryda friends, Aunjunabeats in association with mixmag, Annie mac presents, all gone Pete Tong, Richie Hawtin presents enter, Skream & Benga present and Toolroom Ten are some of the Arenas with the addition of 3 Silent discos
29/8 Outlook – Fort Punta Christo Pula, Croatia
Europe’s biggest Bass Music festival, taking place in a deserted fort on an island in Croatia, with multiple stages, beach parties and boat parties. This festival is an absolute paradise for bass music lovers. It’s organised by UK promoters, featuring an arsenal of Drum & Bass, Dubstep and Hip Hop Producers, Dj’s & MC’s Such as – Andy C, Alix Perez, Breakage, Calyx & Teebee, dBridge, Distance, Dub Phizix, Enei, Goldie, Kode 9, Lenzman, LTJ Bukem, Nympho, Pharoah Monch, Radical Guru, Scratcha DVA, Silkie, submotion Orchestra, Wilkinson and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def), among many many others.
