Amid a rather contentious scandal surrounding reports that Duduzane Zuma, son of current South African President Jacob Zuma, has entered into a couple of fairly lucrative mining deals, our favourite ANC Youth League President Julius Malema has spoken out saying that those in power must should not abuse their office to benefit their friends and immediate family.
In some of the most coherent utterings ever heard coming out of the mouth of the rather outspoken politician, Juju blasted National government saying:
“This democracy is not a democracy of families, this is a democracy of the people of this country… We cannot sit back while families enrich themselves in the name of freedom,”
He followed up this statement with a reiteration of the intent of the ANCYL to nationalize South Africa’s mines:
“This is our minerals… We must fight for them,”
Unfortunately his momentary brilliance was short lived as Julius Malema went back to his comfortable place and urged ANC members to vote for the party irrespective of whether they approved of the councillor it selected for the local government elections, which will be taking place across South Africa in the next couple of months.
“Whether you like the face or not (of the councillor)… as long as next to that face is the emblem of the ANC, you must vote for that face,” he said.
“We are failed by individuals, not by our organisation, the ANC.”
One thing I can say is- Julius has balls. It takes a brave man to stand up and highlight the abuse of resources by those in power.
