Jonathan Butler really is one of those musicians that I grew up listening to. I remember hearing stories about how my dad used to jam with JB back in the day, which I guess gave me the inspiration to follow suit and immerse myself in music and event culture later in life. Jonathan returns to his birthplace Cape Town with his brand new show Evolution on Wednesday 12 September at the GrandWest Grand Arena.
Evolution tells the story of Butler’s life in music from his early days of living in Athone to the international stages which he now occupies. The show also encapsulates his experience under apartheid and his relationship with God, which he refers to as life-saving. During his long career Butler has performed with all the music greats from Dionne Warwick to Patti LaBelle, Kenny Loggins and Al Jarreau.
He will again perform with Ronnie Joyce and Lionel Peterson, his friends and fellow performers from his childhood. Joyce went on to have success with songs such as ‘Give a little love’ and ‘It takes two’ and Peterson was lauded for classics like ‘Bouncy, bouncy, bounce’ and ‘Come back Liza’.
Check it out if you’re a fan of jazz and pop.
The show starts at 20h00 and tickets are available from Computicket between R155 and R285.
