CareerJunction recently published the latest edition (December 2020) of The CareerJunction Index (CJI). The index details which jobs and skills are the most sought-after in South Africa.

More specifically, the CJI represents online labour dynamics by providing a detailed analysis of the relative ratio of supply and demand in the local online career market.

The CJI settled at 99 index points for December 2020, indicating stable conditions in the market. An index score below 100 means that there are fewer job opportunities for potential job seekers and more potential job seekers per job advert. A score above 100 means that there are more opportunities and vacancies for potential seekers.

A breakdown of the data indicates that during December hiring activity and career search activity experienced an expected drop due to the holiday season.

“Aside from the decrease in hiring activity during December 2020, employment prospects are slowly improving for professionals in the business management, ICT and warehousing & logistics sectors,” CareerJunction said.

The report added that a volatile demand trend is evident for professionals in the admin, office & support, finance and medical & health sectors.

“The marketing, manufacturing & assembly, sales and architecture & engineering sectors are showing increased recruitment activity over the past months.”

“Demand for marketing and sales professionals has been growing consistently over the last four months.”
