In the best news to come out of the weekend (other than Caster Semenya getting married) is that James Van Der Beek is going to play the role of one of our favourite dj’s Diplo in an brand new comedy tv series being developed for Viceland. The series will focus on what it’s like to walk in Diplo’s shoes, but in a way that will without a doubt take the absolute piss out of a guy who hardly takes himself too seriously.
The brand new show is called “What Would Diplo Do?” and will be the very first scripted comedy series for production powerhouse, Viceland. James Van Der Beek (from Dawson’s Creek fame) will play a fictional version of the international musical force [in a] collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet, but kind of sucks one-on-on.
Right, we can’t wait.
Here’s what James Van Der Beek had to say about the show, which sees him play the role of producer, writer and actor:
I’ve enjoyed deconstructing my own image quite a bit over the years, but to have the chance to do it with a global megastar like Diplo who’s letting us to do something fun and ridiculous that few people have the balls to allow is crazy.
Here’s what James did as Diplo last year for a bit of promotion of the Mad Decent Block Party Tour – judging by this clip, we’re really in for something great with this brand new show, especially considering how much we love dance music culture here at MyCityByNight.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more about release dates and other guest starring roles/cameos.
