The second monthly installment of “It’s A Laugh” will be on Thursday, 9th May 2013 at It’s A House. After an amazing launch in April 2013, “It’s A Laugh” is Green Point’s newest regular comedy night event that is held once a month on a Thursday evening at what can only be described as De Waterkant’s trendiest creative space – It’s a house (20 Jarvis Street, Green Point). Join Martin Davis as he hosts a line up including Mum-z (Support Act) and Martin Evans (Headliner).
Martin Davis (UK) – Host
Looking like some bizarre marionette tug-of-love struggle between Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, Martin Davis skids and bounces across the stage, strung up and tugged around by unknown forces, firing off a relentless rapid-fire assault that hits every corner of the room and kills 100% of all known hecklers stone dead. Going where mere joke-tellers fear to tread with his characteristic kamikaze bravado (“Go on, heckle me”) he walks the razor edge of audience participation, daring them to pick him off it.
His skill in warming up the chilliest rooms and turning the stoniest punters into soft putty in his hands makes Martin Davis the comic’s favourite compere. With enough nervous energy to power a small city, Martin is the Jolt Cola of the circuit. Consumer advice would read: connect up the microphone, shout “Clear!” and stand well back!
Mum-z (JHB) – Support Act
Born in Diepkloof Soweto, but raised in Sandton this self proclaimed “Coconut” has a style of comedy that can be universally appreciated. His vivid imagination and uncanny story telling ability, combined with his unique use of accents and facial expressions has allowed him to provide audiences with a unique and original style of comedy, drawing most of his content from his personal experiences. His career started with presenting on the SABC2 teenage continuity programme Kidz Can in 1997, he then delved in script writing where he co-wrote the 2003 Best Original Script at the Wits Raps Drama Festival – The Pink Flaming “O”. At UCT he was the 2004 UCT Radio Freestyle champion (undefeated), 2007 he was a Yfm Comedy Battle Champion, in 2011 he won the Graca Comedy Showdown and in 2013 he was part of the ZA News ensemble cast that won a SAFTA for Best Ensemble in a TV Comedy series.
Martin Evans – Headliner
Martin Evans is equally at home, headlining or mc’ing an event. Described as a cynical grouch with a sense of humour that is intelligent and sophisticated. Martin has long been praised for his originality and his quality of performance. He may now call Cape Town home, but his demand has taken him all over the world. Martin’s hundreds of performances internationally put him right at the top of his game.
