James Pountney is a bit of a mysterious character. He’s often called out by fans and producers alike as one of RAM Records’ best producers, yet his releases are few and far between to say the least. He’s a perfectionist – a sculptor, where others are content to put out the mediocre, he makes sure only the best work gets released.
RAM Records is arguably the world’s no.1 Drum & Bass label, with James being a longstanding family member and one of the most respected producers in the genre. Culture Shock productions explore the most creative corners of Drum & Bass, taking in influences from the broadest of fields from techno to house. His most recent work include official remixes for Crystal Fighters, Seinabo Sey, Moko, Nero, Netsky and a tasty collaboration with Sub Focus & TC. Add this to his catalog of game-changers a la “Troglodyte”, “Kronix”, “Orhwurm”, the soulful “Protection” and it becomes easy to see why he’s earned the respect of so many.
Fast forward to the present and according to an interview with UKF.com, a debut album is currently in the works. Culture Shock is undergoing a creative renaissance and it’s a good time to get excited about it!
