IT CAME FROM THE JUNGLE Presents: CULTURE SHOCK (RAM Records UK) Live in South Africa!

James Pountney is a bit of a mysterious character. He’s often called out by fans and producers alike as one of RAM Records’ best producers, yet his releases are few and far between to say the least. He’s a perfectionist – a sculptor, where others are content to put out the mediocre, he makes sure only the best work gets released.

RAM Records is arguably the world’s no.1 Drum & Bass label, with James being a longstanding family member and one of the most respected producers in the genre. Culture Shock productions explore the most creative corners of Drum & Bass, taking in influences from the broadest of fields from techno to house. His most recent work include official remixes for Crystal Fighters, Seinabo Sey, Moko, Nero, Netsky and a tasty collaboration with Sub Focus & TC. Add this to his catalog of game-changers a la “Troglodyte”, “Kronix”, “Orhwurm”, the soulful “Protection” and it becomes easy to see why he’s earned the respect of so many.

James started out on the legendary Moving Shadow imprint with 2004’s “Vega EP”, sadly the seminal label stopped releasing music and it was another 2 years before James found another home with RAM Records. A certain Andy C was following the progress of the young producer and ended up signing him to the label, with the first track “The Bypass” getting tongues wagging around the scene. James followed this up with his debut EP, “The Third Stage” in 2007, which included the suave “Rework”, a collaboration with the Brookes Brothers and a brilliant electro track “Asteroids” that fits well with James’ open approach to music.

Fast forward to the present and according to an interview with UKF.com, a debut album is currently in the works. Culture Shock is undergoing a creative renaissance and it’s a good time to get excited about it!
