Invest in style, convenience and transcontinental living at BlackBrick Cape Town

After a sell-out success in Sandton, the innovative BlackBrick concept launched right here in the heart of the Mother City, opening its doors officially in June. The newly renovated aparthotel (formerly known as the African Guarantee Building) is situated on Riebeeck Street in the convivial square of St Georges Mall, offering investors and guests an unparalleled lifestyle experience.

The dynamic vertical village concept is the brainchild of founder Moritz Wellensiek. Designed originally by distinguished Cape architect William Hood Grant, the new development is a modern take on his classic 1950s Art Deco office block, now decked out with 100 vibrant micro-apartments spread across nine floors.

According to Wellensiek, the inspiration behind BlackBrick stems from the need for flexibility and ease of access he experienced as a young, mobile, multi-city, digital nomad; while having an innate passion for the empowerment of the collective. A mission for radically accelerated individual growth.

The BlackBlack Experience

BlackBrick Cape Town is hard to miss – the newly painted sheer black building towering over Riebeeck Street is more eye-catching than ever before. The entrance is grand yet unpretentious, with a cosy lobby area and concierge run by Cape Town’s ‘Local Knowledge’ collective.

While enjoying a welcome drink, the first thing you’ll notice is how seamlessly the theme is carried throughout the building. Signature geometric street-style designs by the talented Christopher McClements (a Graffiti Artist, Muralist, Architectural Illustrator, Fine Artist, Graphic Designer and Candidate Architect) adorn almost every floor, while one of a kind abstract street-art is adorned across all BlackBrick facilities, carefully curated by resident artist Samurai Farai. In each of the hotel units and across the building you will also find unique wooden pieces by Ian Albertyn.

All rooms share the same urban aesthetic with historical high ceilings and half-century-old parquet flooring. The modern furniture, courtesy of Weylandts, is complemented by the building’s old-school charm. The Deluxe Studio, in particular, is cosy, decked out with an en suite bathroom, mini kitchenette, parquet floors, a study area, a safe and hairdryer, mounted flatscreen TV with Netflix, an aircon and all-encompassing city views. Despite being right in the heart of the city, you’ll be surprised to find how quiet and peaceful the rooms are.

BlackBrick offers variously sized apartments for long and short-stay residents. The trendy micro-apartments range from 23 to 36 square metres in size and the remaining units are selling from R1,095,000, with the option to purchase the space fully-furnished. BlackBrick Cape Town also offers guests and residents 24-hour controlled-access security.

A Vertical Village

What makes BlackBrick so unique is its all-inclusive approach to modern living – it’s not just an average apartment block or hotel. There is so much to do and explore. Long and short term guests have access to a wide variety of amenities, including multiple workspaces, boardrooms and ‘think zones’ to get those creative juices flowing.

There’s a rooftop clubhouse with a DJ booth on one end and a yoga boma and meditation garden on the other, and breathtaking panoramic views of Cape Town city, of course. This space is also available to hire for private events and functions.

Located below ground is the exclusive Members Only Area with a fully equipped boxing gym and cosy cinema. From here, BlackBrick guests and residents have direct access to ‘A Gallery You Can Eat At’. This eclectic new art gallery and cafe serves up an all-day breakfast menu and the most delicious sandwiches – notably named after the greatest rappers and hip-hop heavyweights of all time.

Here, BlackBrick guests and members can muse over (and purchase) local art and enjoy events regularly hosted in this space.

Going Global

Aside from BlackBrick’s stunning apartments and comprehensive list of modern facilities, the brand offers investors ease of access to sister branches like the one located in Sandton. Invest in BlackBrick, become a member and get up to 15 days free stay per year in the brand’s SHORT STAY model, as well as 15% OFF BlackBrick Hotel stays and access to BlackBrick member facilities across South Africa.

But that’s not all – BlackBrick is going global! The brand plans to open branches in Los Angeles, Austin, Miami and Dubai with the vision of accelerating Member’s growth as they live and work freely between cities. Soon BlackBrick members will have access to a transcontinental lifestyle and will be able to live and work freely between these cities across the globe.
