The Spoken Word

A man who needs to be given recognition for being one of the pieces keeping psytrance going in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, Gerhard Laubser aka Vox Libre is the inkling of hope holding the candle to the idea of consistency. A mainstay in the Somerset community with Pulse events his monthly exploits has kept the genre going in an area which has seen such a fluid change in preference and has survived the rise & falls of palate over an extended period of time. A humble individual not given his due, he has become a cult favorite in certain circles and with that has led to us getting to see him at Vortex this weekend.

The Scoop

1) Describe Yourself In Three Words

Gerhard: Determined , Passionate , Committed

2) Your Fave Release Of All Time?

Gerhard: To name a few, Prodigy’s Breathe , the Insomnia riff from Faithless created by Sister Bliss. Expo records are bringing some great artists and music to the scene. Electric Corvette also has something different to offer.

3) Artist To Watch Out For?

Gerhard: Ilai has some great sounds coming out. Locally there are so many talented Dj’s and producers that I get inspired by and look up to. Look at previous Pulse line-ups …

4) Advice For The Dreamers, Trendsetters & Up N’ Comers Out There?

Gerhard: It is important to know the reason why you want to do it, what your goals are and then push for it. Study your craft from the roots and practice every day to perfect it. Understand the Psychology of a DJ so you know what is expected from you when you get an opportunity. Don’t rush your craft but instead continue growing to master it and NEVER give up on your dreams.

5) What can we expect from you in the weeks to come?

Gerhard: I am honored to play at Easter Vortex. ( A big dream that came true for the second year and another respected and incredible festival which I cannot mention yet.) As the co-owner of Pulse Trance Events I continually strive to grow as an organizer. I really love the PULSE and have appreciated the support over the years and the opportunity to showcase and support talented DJ’s and producers. I am also looking forward to a tour in the East later this year.
