Name: Josh Dalgleish
THE SPOKEN WORD
A hero waiting to break free and as humble as they come, Josh aka Kaoss Kontrol is what I’d like to refer to as the spearhead for the #newageartistmovement in Jozi’s psytrance community. Dedication is the driving force behind the journey which given Johannesburg some of the most memorable experiences for the time he has been here. With his production taking off in bit and pieces when the time comes we could be exposed to some truly magical stuff which could give us an even deeper look behind the veil of Kaoss Kontrol, but for now we gift you with an EXCLUSIVE from the man himself.
1) Describe Yourself In Three Words
Josh: Determined, Passionate, Kaotic.
2) Dream Festival?
Josh: Locally I’ve always dreamt of a spot on one of the Vortex line ups purely because of all the great things I’ve heard about the experience and Vortex always being that festival that’s stood out for me both with regards to line up and it’s history.
Josh: Internationally it’s a tough one but the Universo Paralello festival is also something I’ve only heard amazing things about…… And pretty much every artist I play and love perform there… plus the tropical vibe is definitely something that’s drawing me to the festival… So for now that’s definitely the goal!
3) Your Fave Release Of All Time?
Josh: Definitely the toughest question I’ve been asked in a while but if I can highlight 2 it would be NOK’s remix to Captain Hook’s Jolly Roger… I say that because it was a track I heard on one of my 1st psytrance experiences absolutely loved it and couldn’t go without finding it….the search to the this track is what got me hooked on searching for good music and to me that huge! And then Freedom Fighters and Ivorts Creatures From The Lost World, this track has always been a favorite of mine. It’s horror based cinematic approach tweaked something in my brain and got me thinking about really cool ideas to implement in my own productions so it’s a huge influence to what I’m doing today…
4) Artist To Watch Out For?
Josh: Locally the Hippie Mafia boys have been killing it for me the energy on the dancefloor is something I’ve never experienced with any other artist EVER…their style really is one of the most unique out there. Internationally I’m gonna have to say Sawlead Ground. Now I’ve never watched them live but their production once again is one of thee most unique styles I’ve come across and I’ve found myself playing their music in almost 80% of my sets…
5) Advice For The Dreamers, Trendsetters & Up N’ Comers Out There?
Josh: Advice… Don’t do it!!! Haha jokes… But seriously think it through consider all angles and most importantly start with the right intentions… the journey can definitely be tiring but once everything comes together… Wow!!! So if you’re doing it keep on keeping on and if you’re thinking about starting BE SURE…
